I worked at R.R. Donnelley full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people, systems to perform work and corporate support.

    Cons

Benefits expensive, no 401K match. Merit increases minimal and flat across organization and do not recognize performance differences.

    Advice to Management

Support local management, hire people that can make decisions locally to manage and grow the business.

I worked at R.R. Donnelley full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you are young, you are good.

    Cons

20+ years of my life given to RRD and taken away in a minute. Administrators, Supervisors, Management and Executives only care about filling their pockets. Don't think for one second that RRD cares about your future or the future of your family because they have destroyed my life and the life of my family. If you are offered a "package deal", make sure you read it very carefully and seek the advice of an attorney.. because I can assure you, you have a case.

    Advice to Management

Start seeing your employees as family, you do spend more time with the people you work than you do with the ones at home.

I worked at R.R. Donnelley full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a position that allows you to learn as much as you're willing to - sky's the limit.

    Cons

There's no raises with yearly reviews and bonuses are a talked about rumor that I was never able to confirm. Really crushes morale and drive in the office.

    Advice to Management

Organization. Most importantly, give your good employees an incentive to go over and beyond as much as they already do.

    Pros

Paid well and on time. Friendly co-workers. Flexible hours if I had something to do outside of work.

    Cons

Asked me to do a few jobs outside of HR but they weren't terribly hard. Not sure about future as there was a reduction in force occurring at the time.

I have been working at R.R. Donnelley full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

My facility tries to maintain the small family feel that we were before RRD acquisition. My boss allows me the freedom in my everyday dealings and if I feel he starts to micromanage I'm able to tell him and he backs down.

    Cons

As a manager I have little control over my employees. Reviews mean nothing and I have no way to give them incentives. They've never given any more than 1% raises. There is no 401K match and the insurance has increased almost 30% every year. The company has no direction and support since its had multiple purchases, sells and rebranding.

    Advice to Management

Show value in your employees. Invest in your team and less in buying and selling pieces of the company. Focus on the direction of the company and solidify it through shared sales and marketing support.

I worked at R.R. Donnelley full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great co-workers and work environment.
    Flexible work from home policy

    Cons

No real training; Shadowing another employee on cold-calls only teaches you so much.
Management is clearly limited by hierarchy of the organization. Management would like to implement some of the changes recommended by employees, but there is clearly no support from upper management.

Management's lack of knowledge on the 3 company split was a huge red flag telling new employees to jump ship.

    Advice to Management

If you are trying to attract and retain young talent, then do not combat good ideas and strategies with the "we've always done it this way" mentality

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Get with the times have systems in place or you'll loose more good people
