I worked at R/West full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Great, smart, fun, hardworking employees.

    Cons

Most of the clients are underbilled and promised whatever they want (but never at the expense of the leadership/management). Communication is a mess. I've watched coworkers given 1 day to work on a project that should get a week. Despite their growing size, they refuse to hire an office manager. The president orders paper, the accountant does the dishes. The account team are thrown under the bus daily, untrained and given...

    Advice to Management

Get over your status quo and try empowering people in the office (that includes better money/benefits). Defend your workers instead of folding to the clients every whim. Hire an office manager.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at R/West full-time for less than a year

    Pros

You will meet and work among very talented, creative, and great people.

    Cons

For an organization whose biggest capital is people, this agency doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about how to make the staff happy, let's address the turnover (which is very high), the lack of defined career paths here, the low paying salaries and benefits for anyone that is not at director level. R/West has a very outdated client structure and processes are not aligned with today's reality. Inspiration is replaced...

    Advice to Management

Try supporting your employees and creating a culture of empowerment and acknowledgement and you will be delightfully surprised by the results. Also, RESPECT and integrity, please have some of the Directors learn this.

      I worked at R/West full-time

      Pros

There is a small amount of interesting client work that comes through. Everyone is very nice and means well. There are talented people there.

      Cons

Everyone is too busy to constructively talk about the dysfunctional state of the work environment. They don't have a common area to eat lunch, usually everyone eats their lunch alone at their desks. Everyone seems complacent and uninterested in the work they are doing. I wish I could say this weren't true, I really do.

      Advice to Management

Do some team building, work on your company culture, listen to your employees, and for god sakes get some picnic tables or something, guys. It's just sad.

I worked at R/West full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

I worked at R/West for about 3 years, starting as an intern, then moving to Assistant Brand Manager and then Brand Manager. I had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of consumer-focused clients as well as many different creative outlets, including video shoots, social activations, events and traditional media campaigns. The one common denominator during that time was the belief in the work. R/West prioritizes...

      Cons

There are some challenges to working in a remote office (San Francisco). Though the agency does a good job of bringing people to Portland often and integrating teams, lack of face-to-face time can add some speed bumps in communication.

      Advice to Management

Keep prioritizing culture, it's what makes R/West a unique place to work.

I have been working at R/West

        Pros

R/West has a great culture. They do a great job of hiring talented and enthusiastic people, and fostering a close knit community. I love the folks I work with here, and end up hanging out with co-workers as much or more than my other friends. Good work/life balance, and fun events, parties, and employees.
