I worked at RA Sushi part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, laid back uniform, small restaurant, friendly regulars, usually busy, sidework is almost nonexistent, great food, fun staff, plenty of parking

    Cons

Always out of something, it's your typical serving job so you'll have really good days and really bad days, but the really bad days are REALLY BAD!

I worked at RA Sushi part-time

    Pros

High energy environment, half price food for employees, not bad if you are content with starting position.

    Cons

Men must begin as busser and require almost 2 years of work to be eligible for a promotion to server, barback or sushi chef (may become SC earlier). Woman may promote from hostess to server in as little as 3 months. Management displays overt favoritism, not entirely based on merit which detracts from work environment. Like most "hip" places, attractiveness is 50% of worth. Positions that receive a fixed % of tips rarely receive the stated %.

    Advice to Management

Standardize employee developement and follow the process. RA is a chain, and should leverage that when designing processes.

    Pros

    Advice to Management

Care about the effort that employees put in and stop playing favorites.

    Pros

Great opportunities, fun place to work. Lots of opportunity to advance in the company and if your willing to relocate theirs a lot more.

    Cons

The company is owned by an investment group who are doing a good job running things but they have started alot of new programs and changed a lot of old procedures, so they are having some minor issues.

    Advice to Management

Keep treating employees the proper way, and work on fixing the current issues, and things will get better. As for keeping staff, make sure the right people are taken care of and the wrong ones are let go.

I have been working at RA Sushi part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The environment is fun and the people are great. I have worked for RA for over four years and love the experience I have received working with people and building relationships with customers.

    Cons

Management often changes and they sometimes take their job as a joke, depending on what location you work at. They do not do anything with the feedback that customers send in.

    Advice to Management

Continuously train employees in meetings. The meetings are mandatory and the managers do not take them very seriously. Have positive incentives for customer feedback, the managers often do not let employees know that anything has been said about them. Offer opportunities for servers to improve their communication skills.

I worked at RA Sushi full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

New CEO and management can't be any worse than schelmon and his band of merry men. Free food for management is a perk even if it is dumbed down and shipped in from Sysco . At least it was high quality for awhile, but at least you can save a couple pennies now.

    Cons

Constant change, trying to make a sushi bar into carabbas via a checklist. What was once a great and growing concept is now a dying brand trying to stay afloat so the current stakeholders can sell it and get some of there investment back.

    Advice to Management

Ra is a bar that serves some pretty good sushi at a reasonable price. My advice is to Stop thinking about what upper management wants and start thinking about what the customer wants. They want there RA back not mediocre Italian food out of a plastic bag.
Maybe pay your people so you don't have constant turnover and you can then think about providing a quality experience. I could go on and on but I think you get the point .

    Pros

Average health insurance, 401k, free meals.

    Cons

Management inexperienced, not trained on how the kitchen show flow.

    Advice to Management

Cross train managers to understand how a kitchen works. Loose the McDonald mentality, many managers came from the fast food industry.

I worked at RA Sushi (More than a year)

    Pros

the food is the only good part about this place

    Cons

The entire management at RA is corrupt. Going as far as regional managers to even corporate. Every manager is only looking out for their own good and do what they can to manipulate to get their ways. I've never met such an administrative team that talks so much crap and is so fake to and about every employee. They're rude to you and aren't appreciative of anything. The constant retarded coupons and deals leave with no money to be tipped on. Everyone there is a bully.

    Advice to Management

You need to re-evaluate who your management team is and really figure out how best they are for the company. Haven't seen such a great place turned into such crumbles so quickly.

I have been working at RA Sushi part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lot of great experiences with the clientele and the coworkers and managers were great people

    Cons

The tip out was absolutely ridiculous and the cooks were not always up to par

    Advice to Management

Try to make a change to the way to tip out and have a word with kitchen management
