I worked at RBC Bearings full-time

    Pros

Good exposure to management / c-suite, decent early-career compensation progression, strong company value of engineering department, good work-life balance.

    Cons

There was a lack of mentorship emphasis, there was a lack of a clear and defined career path and minimal discussion or planning regarding it, the IT and other systems were annoyingly archaic and limiting.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing to say

    Pros

I operated two punch presses,a 545 ton and a 600 ton. Set up both and put metal in cradle and checked finished parts

    Cons

I would still be there if didn't have a lay off

I worked at RBC Bearings full-time

    Pros

Very cordial peers and hourly work force.

    Cons

The job security is lousy. I had to lay off several key individuals during my tenure there, and I finally became a victim of cutbacks myself. While RBC as a corporation is doing well, they have a stand alone mentality for their respective divisions, and they have no corporate support for supplier quality. Communication between the design folks and plant manufacturing could be greatly enhanced.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to pay more attention to alternative expense cutting measures. It seems that the first reaction is for management to cut their work force, and this can be disastrous.

I have been working at RBC Bearings full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great place to learn the business fundamentals from marketing to manufacturing. Everyone has a chance to get exposed to all aspects of the business.

    Cons

Most of the management simply does not have a backbone. Lots of wasted time chasing rabbit trails dictated by others above them instead of making good business decisions.

    Advice to Management

There is no visible succession plan for this company. What happens when the chief stops making decisions for you? Stand up and lead, or move on.

I worked at RBC Bearings full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great learning experience for a young engineer. Most engineers are young which creates a fun workplace environment, most of the time.

    Cons

Poor planning creates unnecessary problems for production. No accountability from management. Almost non-existent benefits.

    Advice to Management

Stop tasking the engineers to perform the duties of supervisors, quality, production planning, and the operators.

    Cons

Pathetic company culture based upon numbers only. Come in, feign interest, go home.

I worked at RBC Bearings full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

90% of the people that work here are amazing professionals. Everyone seems willing to work hard for each other and there is little fear of management. From the CEO to the floor managers, everyone seems to realize their employees are their most valuable asset.

    Cons

Open management positions are frequently filled from outside the company. Promotions from within are not necessarily met with appropriate compensation.

    Advice to Management

Higher salaries required to retain top talent.
