I worked at REI Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good compensation for competent employees
    Hardworking sincere enthusiastic peers
    Strong work ethics
    Very fair senior management

    Cons

Matrixed environment sometimes makes resource availability a challenge
Workload is on the higher side for individuals. Additional staffing/budget required for certain projects.

    Advice to Management

Some older employees tend to undermine the authority of newer employees and their 360s should be given more attention.

    Pros

At REI, we develop software for the government much like other contractors in the area. What I like is the length the company goes to make it an enjoyable place to work. Work time is generally flexible to meet family needs.

    Cons

Depending on project, there are time pressure

I have been working at REI Systems (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very supportive, very energetic culture. They are transitioning to Agile-style development and it is generating a lot of excitement. Above average benefits. LOTS of encouragement and support for continuing education.

    Cons

Not all the managers are 100% on board with the new, more dynamic style of doing business and seem more preoccupied with maintaining their personal empires, but that is also changing.

    Advice to Management

Take advantage of the energy generated by adopting the Agile process. Stay true to your core values and you will best AND the biggest someday. I would have rated REI 4.75 stars, because no company is perfect, but REI is pretty darn close.

I have been working at REI Systems full-time

    Pros

Great place to start your career if you've been working for 5 years or less.
GREAT benefits and the culture is very relaxed.
Everybody is super nice and the company really cares about the well being of the employee

    Cons

VERY VERY rare upward career opportunities.
There is little to non in terms of training.
The annual employee review process is a joke. They keep trying to improve it but it still has a long way to go.
