Decent Company to Work for, not sure of long term career growth

Jan 13, 2021 - Senior Project Estimator in Broomfield, CO

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Good company benefits - health, dental, & vision insurance Comparable accrual of paid time off Access to proper tools and resources to perform work. Good people to work with.

    Cons

Lack of established company workflows and policies. - Everything is customized or created from scratch. This leads to employees not being able to work efficiently or too much. Payroll and HR errors or mistakes during hiring on process. Many things were over promised and/or under delivered in job expectations.

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback. We acknowledge that some company workflows and policies are changing in response to the explosive growth in the renewables sector. We are working diligently to improve and adjust to market changes and are glad you feel you have access to the proper tools and resources to perform the important work we are doing at RES. We encourage you to connect with Human Resources to correct any errors.

Poor work-life balance, Poor company structure at the management level.

    Pros

Exposure to a variety of construction and project management skills. Pay and benefits are good. Can make numerous helpful connections with other clients, subcontractors, and other employees.

    Cons

Awful Work-life balance: Takes advantage of salaried employees (70 - 80 hr work weeks). Lack of self accountability in management - easy for supervisors/coworkers to scapegoat or take credit for someone else's work. Easy for an individuals good performance to go unnoticed. Unqualified employees in management. Poor management structure and employee performance review process. Harmful "Bro-Life" culture. Friendly/hard working employees WILL be taken advantage of and receive a heavier work load than others. I do not recommend taking this position at RES if you have a 4 year engineering degree and expecting an intellectually stimulating, technical job.

    Pros

Good working environment and for me, good pay which I could not get anywhere else. In general people friendly and easy to get on with and helpful. Good benefits bonus and pension scheme. During my time with the company flexitime was in operation which I took advantage of. There was some working at home for me.

    Cons

Too many redundancy rounds which caused a lot of stress. The company for the 2016 reorg got rid of a lot of key long servers who had served the company well. This could only have been to save money on large salaries. However due to the downturn in renewables in the UK some reorg was necessary
