I have been working at RGB Spectrum

    Pros

During five years with RGB, I experienced and observed many growing opportunities. Company encourages its employees to grow and do their best. They offer Tuition reimbursement and Annual Reviews that often lead to promotion. Management team is usually understanding and supportive. I would also highlight that RGB has a lot of talented and interesting people and it’s a pleasure to work with them.

    Cons

    Exchange of information between departments

I worked at RGB Spectrum for more than 8 years

    Pros

The company is located in a very nice spot. Alameda is lovely. There have been some brilliant people there who have built up world-class technology. They have an interesting mix of products, well-supported and marketed by some good and interesting people.

    Cons

Their CEO is a micro-managing tyrant who bullies his staff into untenable positions, wasting time and management resources, leading to schedule slips and poor product and market definition. His company succeeds, in as much as it does, in spite of him, not because of him. The company's benefits are sub-par, and the compensation is below industry standards. The company is privately held and likely to remain so; don't count on any stock benefits there.

    Advice to Management

Take lots of deep breaths. Create an interesting side-project to keep the boss busy while you get some real work done. Try and get him to compensate his staff and give them some equity.

I have been working at RGB Spectrum

    Pros

very good work-life balance management very understanding of home life Easy going atmosphere in general

    Cons

no vested interest in company's success benefits are average at best very little investment in employee development poor internal business processes Most things seem to be decided on a whim or knee jerk reaction. creating see-saw on work , projects, and issues elements of management have been know to be VERY public & aggressive with criticisms of employees. Has caused people to quit on the spot, others to give notice and transition out a lack of trust between elements of management and employees in general extremely high turn-over rate

I have been working at RGB Spectrum full-time

    Pros

Engineering teams are well managed and have good talent. Marketing unit is energetic and knowledgeable. Operations mostly out-of-house, but in-house staff is very experienced. Balanced work loads and an easy going atmosphere.

    Cons

Processes are not aqueduct for a professional company, but slowly improving. Medical benefits are very poor. Employees tend to be single, or get coverage from a spouse. CEO is past his prime. Tendency to micromanage his immediate staff. Schedules frequently slip.

    Pros

Pretty stable for an engineer if you do your job well since it is privately held. Good work life balance for the most part. get to work with lot of smart engineers.

    Cons

Benefits could be better. In an industry with heavy competition so striving hard to be profitable due to slow evolution.

    Advice to Management

Has to evolve quickly and trust engineers more.
