The company truly believes that if you take care of your employees, the employees will take care of the customers. You feel like you are part of a family. Plus the benefits and flexible schedule are awesome.

I have been working at RJG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A little bit of my background for comparison purpose. I worked for Oracle for 10 years as a solution architect. Before that I was a software architect for the Walt Disney Company, a few years as a system architect for GM, and a few jobs as senior developer for a hedge fund and a few start-ups. By far RJG is best creative environment that I have been in. The company is small enough to allow creative thinking and move fast into new technologies, but still has the global reach (company being almost 40 old) to make a deep impact in our industry. Management is an open and flat structure that constructive criticism are heard. Added bonus: headquartered in Traverse City, one of the top 10 small town in the US making this a dream job for many of the employees here.

    Cons

Not necessarily a huge downside, and this applies to all jobs in Traverse City, the old saying "view of the bay half the pay" is part of living in Traverse City. Although it's not literally 1/2 the pay, the salary is lower than major metropolitan areas. But the lower cost of living and the improved quality of life is enough offset for me personally.

    Advice to Management

Management can be a little family style from time to time. That's due to transition from a closely controlled family owned management to employee owned. A better corporate structure might help some of the growing pain.

I have been working at RJG full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This is by far the best company I have ever had the pleasure to work for. They truly care about their staff, customers & community. If they will keep me on until I retire, I am staying! In short I will simply state this, I wake up every day excited and blessed to go to RJG!

    Cons

NONE I am not even kidding!

    Advice to Management

Keep up the culture & caring even when you soar to new heights, that will always keep your staff loyal and productive!

I have been working at RJG full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have worked for RJG 15+ years and it is by far the best place I have worked at. Everyone there is like family to me and they really care for their employees. They offer great benefits, have a great culture and are involved in the local community and encourage their employees to do the same. It truly is a great place to work for.

    Cons

I can't think of any cons about the company. Just that affordable housing in the area can be an issue when people look at moving here.

    Pros

RJG has a great culture - we work hard and have fun together. RJG has a stellar reputation as an industry leader, and a great reputation with our customers for excellent products, training, and services. Traverse City is a great place to live as well - a vibrant community with beautiful beaches and scenic beauty, and lots of outdoor recreational activities.

    Cons

The winters can be long, so it helps if you enjoy skiing, snowmobiling, etc.

I have been working at RJG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

RJG is very committed to it's employees from a cultural and work place environment standpoint. They offer a number of perks, that encourage a healthy and happy workplace.

    Cons

The only downside I can see isn't entirely the fault of RJG, but of the location of their headquarters. Traverse City, MI is an area notorious for paying employees considerably less than the industry averages for their work. RJG also does this, but to a lesser degree than surrounding employers.

    Advice to Management

Take advantage of the skilled, but perhaps less qualified, people in your entry level positions. Make active efforts to advance them quickly, and put their unique talents and skills to better use.
