I have been working at RL Canning full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They got my direct deposit done correctly...that is the lone bright spot.

    Cons

Where to start...this company came in and under bid our employer for Honeywell and in order to get the bid they offered up a lowball deal coupled with a nearly impossible SLA while reducing a 4 person IT crew down to 2 while sending others out to replace those that refused to accept the under market value hourly wage for desktop support. The pay is utter garbage and they try to dazzle you with their awesome bonus and benefits plan...it is perhaps awe inspiring to an IT newbie but a sham to the bulk of us that have been around the block. The benefits are expensive and nothing to knock your socks off. This is all a dog & pony show of promises and sales tactics to cover up the lowball pay and nonsense which is justified with the "bonuses" that are dangled.

What they fail to tell folks in the interview AND orientation process is that they pay employee 2 weeks in arrears which meant that anyone starting on the first of the month with RL Canning doesn't get paid until the end of the month- and that is a mere 2 week paycheck. Very sleazy and cheap, RL.

The claim is to not micromanage but boy they sure end up doing so by dangling their bogus bonuses that can never be achieved due to the SLA from the deal they made to get the Honeywell name regardless of how much it hurts their own work force- you know, the folks that make the money for them by doing the actual work. Instead of managers or supervisors they have "leaders" and daily time wasting "tag up" meetings that do nothing helpful. There is no direction or plan as they grandly promise 30+ days into them taking over as our contracting company. All for the client and damn their employees as long as they get to keep this big shot feather in their company cap. It is like watching the Titanic inch closer and closer to a field of icebergs while the captain merely says engine full speed ahead and we'll figure out what to do later. They tell you that you will be used for "projects" in addition to your original workload without defining what these projects are. Far too much ambiguity from these RL Canning people. Oddly enough the local Menard's pays a mere $2 less to people that load lumber and cement into customers vehicles.

So far 2 of the 4 hires from our original group have quit before a full month under this regime that was forced upon us. They both left for significant pay increases and stable work environments that have an actual direction and plan in place. I cannot blame them and I shall be next. Just wait until Honeywell gets tired of this Mom & Pop amateur show and boots them for another.

    Advice to Management

Stop making the client your only concern and stop paying people 6-12% below the national average for IT related work. Stop omitting things to new hires and dangling bonuses that are latter leveraged over your head by your leaders.

It beats being at the un-employment office.

    Cons

The contracts are NEVER more than 3 months, so PLEASE make sure you have something waiting for you when your contract is over!!!

    Advice to Management

I have been working at RL Canning full-time

    Pros

Great goals. Fair benefits. Positive outlook.

    Cons

Horrible execution of goals by management. The only way to be successful is to be fake? I disagree with this attitude and refuse to act this way. Almost all management have little to no IT experience and yet they are selling IT professionals to the client.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. Learn to see through the smoke screens that your chosen management put up. Hire some intelligent people to lead your teams. And pay your employees what they should be paid in this field. Only then will you be successful. Otherwise, the turnover rate will continue to increase and you will lose all of the honest hard working people.

I worked at RL Canning full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

None, Plus the 5 star reviews are obviously planted.

    Cons

OK so if you look at the other reviews, they are all very bad reviews. Obviously RL Canning noticed this website and the bad reviews. So over a 5-6 week time frame (notice all the others are very spread out) suddenly they get a spat of 5 star reviews. Obviously these are planted by RL Canning management. They are very general about how "wonderful" this company is. This company is one of the worst I have every worked for. This company really doesn't want any professionals who really know their stuff, because then you have a brain. They just want young people, with minimal experience and no certifications, who will do want exactly what they say with no questions. Even if what they say isn't best practice and they end up being trained incorrectly. Or worse they just let them out on their own to try and do their best. They love firing people and turn over is horrendous.

    Advice to Management

Nothing because they don't care about their employees as people.

I worked at RL Canning full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Owners know everyone's name and are very friendly. Good benefits. Great co-workers. Recruiters did a good job of staying in touch after being hired on.

    Cons

I was there 5 months. In this timeframe, 4 people quit and an additional 4 were let go, with a staff of under 50 employees. This shows poor management at a local level. The manager is a micro-manager but very hands off. She spends very little time with managers under her as well. There is no way to know the expectations because she never takes the time to explain it to you.

    Advice to Management

Instead of allowing management in Springfield, IL location to let people go so quickly and quit so frequently, look at having a talk with the manager. One person cannot solely run an organization. It requires a good manager and teamwork.

    Pros

Friendly director with encouraging words who seems to be genuine. Competitive wage if you are willing to do all that is asked of you even outside of your work scope.

    Cons

Vindictive recruiters who are only looking out for themselves. Will tell you all that you want to hear, and go behind your back and say negative things when they look bad. Asks you to everything and promises compensation, and not deliver siting excuses.

    Advice to Management

Should really take into consideration of your employees actions, and proven work ethic rather than words of your recruiters with personal agendas.

    Pros

The administrative staff is usually pretty friendly and kind on the phone. This seems to be the only bright area in the entire company.

    Cons

The owner and managing partner of the company seems to be more interested in rumors and false allegations instead of taking the words of her employees as actual fact. The way she attempts to interject herself into the personal lives of the employees is really inappropriate. Any opportunities for advancement based solely on job performance is non-existent. No performance reviews usually equates to no bonuses. Which also supports their record of empty promises given at the beginning of employment.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and management staff more to accurately gauge what's really going on within your company instead of brown-nosing the client who may have shady intentions in order to get more business.

I worked at RL Canning as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The paycheck always cleared. Wasn't always correct, but it cleared.

    Cons

Pay schedule doesn't meet state law in IL or CO.
RL is just a figure head to the company to allow them minority status for biding contracts.
They liked to tell you that your a salary employee, but require you to "punch in" and "punch out". This also violates labor law.
They don't allow paid overtime, require overtime to be converted to "Comp" time, in violation of state labor laws.
Will edit time cards from paid overtime to "comp" time with no notice, also in violation of labor laws.

    Advice to Management

The reality is that most of the employees on the contract I was on are only there because they needed a job at the time and leave as soon as possible once a better position is found. As others have said in they're reviews it is unlikely to change because the cause is due to "Senior Management" (I do use that term loosely), but once the economy does turn around this company is going to crash and burn due to the employees running away as quickly as possable.

    Pros

Most of the employees you work with in the field are helpful and professional.

    Cons

Management is out of touch and unhelpful.
They try to micromanage on one hand, they make you punch a time clock in and out 4 times a day.
(They don't tell you about this till after you start working for them)
On the other hand they don't talk to you except if there are negative issues to convey, even if this doesn't affect you or your position.
This is a very small company with limited growth opportunities unless you are in good with the few management people. Friends who got together to start their own company. You do not advance because of your experience or training but because of who your friends with. While this may happen within some companies because of the size of this one it is a hard and fast rule. They don't want anyone who doesn't fall in line with what they think and they don't want to listen to any other ideas.

    Advice to Management

I don't think they would even listen. It will eventually blow up in their faces. They already are having issues. Everyone I knew only worked there less than a year and if they could were looking elsewhere.
