I have been working at RMF Engineering full-time

    Pros

Coworkers are the best reason to work here. Everyone is really friendly and nice. The projects are high quality, and the environment is awesome. There are training programs for ambitious people to learn how to do project management.

    Cons

The project management training is in the home office and only a few people from each office can attend at any given time.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest that we have the project management training in each office, not just the home office, so that more people can attend.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at RMF Engineering full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Interesting projects, very laid back office culture

    Cons

A great deal of overtime, with very small if not non-existent bonuses to compensate for it. Lack of technical ability and oversight. If you are not one of the two or three people drinking the cool aid, you are treated as nothing more than a production machine. You will be grossly underpaid when compared to similar positions in the industry.

    Advice to Management

When your employees come to you with concerns, at least try to take them seriously. Don't "deflect, deny, defer" every issue that arises.

I worked at RMF Engineering for less than a year

    Pros

At my location, I had the opportunity to learn a lot. They want you to improve and so took their time to teach what they could.

    Cons

Long hours and multiple project deadline in a week.

    Advice to Management

    More social with employees

I worked at RMF Engineering full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great people, relaxed environment, easy to gain responsibility if you want it, fun work environment, lots of employee activities like movie outings and cookouts, EXCELLENT benefits - you cannot get a better overall package, healthcare cost to employee low, healthcare deductible paid by employer, 6% 401k match, vacation/personal/holiday time that is flexible, good raises/bonuses/pay for those that work hard and do a... great job, lots of room for career growth if you want it, NC office has great leadership, strong commitment to training and BIM use - if you want to learn it RMF generally will support it, low turnover in NC office, decent work life balance in NC office most of the time, leadership development is important to several board members. Overall excellent place to work.

    Cons

Tolerance by management of a few employees that treat others poorly, some periods of overtime required. No place is perfect but this is a great place to work overall.

    Advice to Management

Overall you are doing a great job. Deal with the bad apples. If there are regular complaints about an employee treating a large amount of people poorly address the issue.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at RMF Engineering full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Plenty of Buildings or Infrastructure design projects that an engineer gets assigned to right away. - Revit and AutoCAD is used primarily to complete design projects and this exposure is handy. - Healthcare plan was very good the time I was there (before Obamacare)

    Cons

    - RMF management expects overtime from every employee specially engineers. Apparently the bonus payments is some how computed into your bonus at the year end. But, you could make more money working at McDonalds with the time you spent working overtime, so it really isn't worth it (working overtime). -Expect to be overused, underpaid and provided with very little mentorship or guidance and a career path won't be... drawn out , plus employee morale is low. Due to high employee turnover no one can say what the employee culture is as it changes rapidly every 2-3 years.

    Advice to Management

Management is well aware about low employee morale. Do something about it, don't just talk about low morale.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at RMF Engineering full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good people to work with as fellow employees go. A good location for a job not so bad commuting. Close to public transportation.

    Cons

Very top heavy in upper management. Long hours and never enough overtime. Last minute designs on high profile jobs. Micro managed no one knows what's going on. Management or partners work you like dogs with very little praise or bonuses. Raises do not cover the healthcare increases if you get one.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes and ears. Listen tithe people that are doing the work for you. Sometimes the workers have ideas that can work better than yours. Learn the programs that you are using and get rid of the "I don't know and don't want to know" attitude. Stand behind the good workers and get rid of the dead weight do nothing people that you choose to keep.
