    Pros

Very supportive on a day-to-day basis

    Cons

The company is so stable, most of the management has been there for 20-30 years, little room for advancement

I have been working at RML Specialty Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Usually good teamwork and experience. Twelve hour shifts. Can work at Hinsdale when census drops and you get cancelled every other week.

    Cons

No support from management. Work every other weekend and if you call off on a weekend are required to work another weekend to make it up. Favoritism with scheduling. Major exodus of all management, some supervisors, 2 out of 3 nurse educators and human resource staff at Chicago. High acuity unit with less staff, no extra pay = more work. Short staffed with majority of staff either new grads or less than 1-2 years experience. Some lazy people. RT's don't help at all. In house MD's that don't have emergency background or know ACLS protocols.

    Advice to Management

Back up your staff. Stop acting like every family member that complains is speaking the truth and would NEVER lie. Be fair to all, not just your favorites. Stop this 6 is the new norm/minimum on day shift (8+ on nights) - then wondering why the clabsi, cauti rates have gone up while patient satisfaction scores plummet and blame the staff for it by lowering their yearly bonus. Tell those supervisors to get out there and HELP their staff. Not sit in that office and refuse to lift a finger.

I have been working at RML Specialty Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The care that is provided by the clinical and non-clinical staff is outstanding. They stand up to being Nationally known for the weaning processes, working with medically complex and wound patients. The outcomes of the patients that come to RML is very rewarding. Family orientated environment. Fun place to work.

    Cons

    Limited growth in Human Resources

    Advice to Management

    None

I have been working at RML Specialty Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Started as new grad. Great place to learn. Get more experience than if you started on a generic med-surg floor. Scheduling has been flexible for me.

    Cons

Bit short staff at the moment and have to use

    Advice to Management

Allow advancement, certifications, better tuition reimbursement, and more learning opportunities, so new nurses don't want to leave to university hospitals. Don't pressure RNs to work overtime.

I worked at RML Specialty Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The overnight staff worked together as a team. I've learned so much in such a short time.

    Cons

RML offers 12hr shifts for their employees, this was an issue with smaller school aged children

    Advice to Management

Treat ALL employees as they would like to be treated

    Pros

rewarding, hands-on patient care, exposure to/opportunity to learn skilled nursing techniques, learn a lot about life...and death, good practice for students and/or those considering nursing, offer tuition reimbursement and support for nursing students, opportunity to work with a group of compassionate individuals

    Cons

high pct/nurse:patient ratio, can be stressful, physically/emotionally draining, clique-y, hard work, little pay, must work weekends, a lot of exposure to germs/contagious diseases, working with very, very sick and dying patients (must be comfortable with this),

    Advice to Management

Offer more emotional support for employees; remind them-often-that it is available to them should they need it. It's tough out there on the floor!
