I worked at RPM International full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a stable work environment with a low turnaround. People are friendly and mostly relaxed. Very low stress. The campus even though dated is still nice enough. Lots of freedom when working on the projects. It's a great place for self-motivated. Good place for learning. Free lunch.

    Cons

Most people come and stay for 10+ years, which is usually good but can lead to mediocrity. There is a big gap in perks, salaries, bonuses, etc. between management and everyone else. In the already small workplace, people tend to stick with their small groups which creates alienation and lack of communication. Formal attire.

    Advice to Management

Let the people know what's going on. Create a workplace that encourages teamwork and open communication.

I worked at RPM International full-time

    Pros

    Free lunch and nice events

    Cons

Only the people at “corporate” were treated with any respect and made any money. Over paid executives while everyone else is grossly underpaid and overworked. I was asked if I was an intern almost all the time when I was a full time employee for years! Management is soo out of touch it hurts, and they promote people who don’t deserve it. Additionally, the companies they own hate corporate.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so out of touch and just listening to managers rather than employees, the only people actually doing work. Over working all the “low level” people not in corporate. Providing competitive salaries for all the horrible international travel to this awful companies.

I have been working at RPM International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The division for which I worked had tremendous leadership and was very innovative in creating/adjusting products to meet customer demands. The entire group worked well as a team. The products we sold were cutting edge from an environmental and safety standpoint so you could feel good about your contribution to society. The territory I covered (Western North America) is beautiful!

    Cons

My position required a tremendous amount of overnight/over weekend travel. The HQ was located in Pittsburgh while I was on the West Coast so it was a mixed bag of working autonomously but missing out on the corporate culture and possible career advancement opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Strengthen distributor relationships to cut down on employee overnights travel. Provide employees with some idea of a career path. Other than that, keep doing what you are doing.
