I have been working at RSM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Located in Midtown, Manhattan and with staff is very flexible with hours as long as work in accurately submitted on time.

    Cons

Younger staff are hard to work with Management is not always accountable for their staff. It is also extremely difficult to move to another department once hired. Choose department carefully before accepting position. Promotions and bonuses are low

    Advice to Management

Micromanage younger staff more, backup work more, and offer technology better to the staff that need it. I work on very large excel documents, and due to the lack of processing power on the provided laptop I lose work or have to take extra steps to prevent the loss of work. Most other employees are given equipment that that is not needed for their job, and the ones that need it are left struggling.

I have been working at RSM full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Not the worst in the country. Can fare better. Initiatives galore. Implementation lags. Good management. Less political.

    Cons

Strives to be a Big 4. Need to carve a niche. Accept the situation and instead strive to provide the best possible work.

    Advice to Management

Take it slow and steady. Rome was not built in a day. Understand ranking 6th took a while. Moving up will also take some time.

I worked at RSM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good atmosphere to work in, most people are not pretentious. There is potential to be exposed to a high learning curve if one desires. At a midsized audit firm, junior staff quickly given more complex accounts to work on early on.

    Cons

Compensation lags slightly behind big 4 companies. Lots of turnover because new hires quickly realize they're getting paid less but working the same amount of hours vs their equivalent at big 4. At least with big 4, there's a brand name they can add to their resume, work on more big name clients, and interact with some of the brightest in the industry.

    Advice to Management

There's a need to invest in and develop your employees.
