I have been working at RSM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I must say that RSM has put its money where its mouth is when it boasts about the flexible lifestyle they want they're employees to life. Working in tax calls for long hours and busy days however, once you prove you will work hard to get your job done - those long hours also come with a long leash.

    Cons

More accountability for the senior management could be used. Some senior managers and directors don't seem to work much...

    Advice to Management

None. RSM does a great job in supporting work/life balance, cultural diversity, growth opportunities, open door policy, and maintaining great office culture.

I worked at RSM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are certain people in the marketing department that are a great asset to RSM and helped make the day-to-day environment manageable.

    Cons

Management doesn’t care about your growth or future success. Many of the managers are focused on making leadership happy rather than helping their teams grow and succeed too. The frequent unexpected deadlines and unplanned needs made it a difficult and uneasy work environment.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the people who work for you too not just the people you work for.

I have been working at RSM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people you work with are the best part. I've never felt like the environment is cut-throat. Partners and senior managers are friendly.

    Cons

Typical gripes related to the industry - long hours, clients, etc. Benefits and pay are average.

    Advice to Management

Focus on building a culture of continuous learning. Senior associates and managers need to be more open. Don't expect you to know everything.

I worked at RSM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

learned a ton, flexible on working remotely when possible, got to work with a lot of different clients, the team I worked with were also (mostly) great! challenging job with a lot of opportunity for growth and salary increase

    Cons

sometimes unmanageable workload, working across several different managers and teams can lead to overscheduling, sometimes felt unqualified to do some of the work that was promised out to clients, training and resources fell short in some areas

I have been working at RSM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are great people. Competitive pay. Plenty of opportunities to learn about the industry and guidelines.

    Cons

Lack of competent upper management causes issues amongst every team and project. VERY few women in upper management.

    Advice to Management

Hire more experienced people to adequately staff projects.

    Pros

    Great work teams
    Hard working and motivated staff
    Flexible in non-busy season
Benefits overall are good compared to other firms

    Cons

Long hours during busy season (as expected)
Higher ups sometimes forget to engage associates
Structured movement (harder working members don’t get recognized as they should)

I worked at RSM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Consulting, variety of projects, can be flexible depending on your team, nice office, some really great people work here. Committed to charitable causes.

    Cons

Really poor leadership in TMC across the board. Almost no communication from senior TMC leadership. Not many career opportunities. Annual review period is way too long. Self evals start at the beginning of April. Pay raises take effect in October. Training and educational resources are tough to get approved. Talented people don't seem to stay long.

    Advice to Management

Encourage communication and be more transparent on all levels. Try to retain your good employees and provide more training.

I worked at RSM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the people are nice. You may have better luck in a consulting service line.

    Cons

There is a lot of turnover in the tax department due to the partner running compliance. The partner has no leadership skills. He is unable to keep his people busy and is quick to blame others for his mess. Most people do not stay a year. Nobody has confidence in the partner running the group, and nobody respects him. Good people have transferred from other offices within the firm only to leave after a year because of the mismanagement.

    Advice to Management

Get someone different to run the tax compliance group.

Job pays well, but for the hours you will work the compensation is not as good as they will make it appear to be.

    Cons

    Hours
    Management
    Travel
    Work/life balance
Do not be fooled by their "family" approach to public accounting
No awareness of healthy food options
