I have been working at RTI Health Solutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Flexibility in work schedule is implicitly assumed for people - Perks are above average (fitness center, new cafeteria, pretty campus, 401k compensation) - Colleagues are all smiles - Work is varied, and speaking your mind is not discouraged - Pay is above average for the area and degree

    Cons

Unfortunately, the cons are the flipside of the pros: - Flexibility in work schedule seems to be more "OK" for those who have young children rather than those who do not have young children - Perks are good, compared to the area. However, to attract younger workers, things like a more aggressive vesting schedule (e.g., less than 5 years), more updated building perks (e.g., food available in individual buildings) need...

    Advice to Management

    - Invest in forward thinking (e.g., using new software; leveraging skills of employees to meet clients' current or future needs - be creative in BD; hire/train in AI/machine learning/data analytics people - the future is now for this) - Expand teams to 3 people on average - More aggressive vesting schedules (currently 100% of RTI contribution to 401k is at 5 years - needs to be less than that)

I have been working at RTI Health Solutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Open communication; transparent work culture; friendly people accessible and always ready to help. Great community of people that want to do well; great benefits; the best business unit of RTI international The company is growing but still very small. Many top tier researchers have made incredible advancements in the industry. Opportunities to continue learning and to share ideas. Strong pipeline. Collaborative and friendly...

    Cons

Middle management is not empowered to make decisions, hence, autonomy is only given to higher management; some positions are harder to move out of than others; no objective measures for promotion (could be biased sometimes); while benefits (401k, vacation time, etc.) are great, salary is definitely not competitive; internal systems aren’t so modernized.

    Advice to Management

    1) continue to hire smart, talented, and collaborative people who care deeply about our patients and making a difference in their lives 2) Don’t take advantage of the fact that people are all of these things and recognize when you may be asking too much. More importantly, true 360 and peer reviews that are given weight and meaning are desperately needed.

I worked at RTI Health Solutions full-time for more than 19 years

    Pros

Non profit, research only, division of Research Triangle Institute in North Carolina. Offices in US and Europe. Pays well and projects have public health benefit (although clients are virtually all pharmaceutical companies).

    Cons

Company is changing and growing; focus of work is in Barcelona and Research Triangle Park, NC. Has grown from <50 to >200 in about 15 years. Management structure has not kept up with growth. Projects and finances are carefully managed; people not so much.

    Advice to Management

Think about the ratio of managers to people; it seems relatively low. Think about the function of remote work sites and how they are supported or not by HQ.

I have been working at RTI Health Solutions

      Pros

RTI-HS is a well-respected scientific organization that conducts some very good research. There are many renowned scientists who work within the organization whose work results make a positive difference in people's health care.

      Cons

Unfortunately, the organization is very traditional and hierarchical and appears to be behind the times when it comes to innovation. Innovation and general development is not valued or encourage as it takes time away from being "billable." There are no employee incentives, no rewards or recognition for jobs well-done.

      Advice to Management

There are many bright and innovative people at RTI-HS. Engage ALL employees, not just senior leadership. Begin an active growth and development program. Without engaging all levels of employees, you will never really know why the business is running like it is.
