I worked at RTT AG full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Even though it's a bit more corporate than it used to be they have maintained a great atmosphere. Company parties are really fun. Never a shortage of work to be done.

    Cons

Somewhat political at times. Overwork a few employees throughout the year.

    Advice to Management

    Cut the dead weight.

    Pros

The guys that actually do the work on the floor; the backbone, the artists, are a wonderful bunch! Such a shame they are treated the way they are, they all deserve so much more.

    Cons

Awful place! Degrading, demoralizing and management do nothing (read: don't care!)
It's all about getting the last drop of blood out of the stone while keeping you under thumb and afraid. Ruled by tyrants!!

    Advice to Management

All upper management, with one or two exceptions should take a long hard look in the mirror at themselves. They are dragging what was a great & creative place down to the depths. Management and how the company is run are the reason they will loose contracts and keep bleeding all their best people.

I worked at RTT AG (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not to be ungracious, but I can't really think of anything good to say. I worked in the Pasadena office in the early days and while the staff and management were generally pleasant to work with, ineffective people were promoted to key positions with disastrous results.

    Cons

Many bad hiring decisions. Ineffective leadership. Serious organizational issues. Company culture was often adversarial, pitting one office against another, individual against individual. I called it a culture of blame and devoid of any personal responsibility.

Threatening and hostile work environment. The co-CEO and later only CEO, Peter Stevenson, who was more an operations guy and sales guy, lacked the leadership skills to motivate and inspire people, instead he intimidated people with threats of termination. While a moderately gifted orator, he lacked the ability to engage with people on a one on one basis and strangely had a hard time looking you in the eye.

    Advice to Management

Toss it all out and start over. You won't attract or retain people when employees are treated like chattel.

I have been working at RTT AG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Talented staff who are the unsung heroes keeping the company afloat.

    Bagel Fridays.

    Free pop.

    Cons

They will ask you to sign a non-compete.

There is no training program to speak of and no support. You will be handed work and be expected to complete it. If you ask any questions regarding proprietary software or pipeline you will be seen as clueless. They will not trust you with any work after that.

Management from top to bottom are completely incompetent. They are dishonest and will flat out lie when directly asked a question. They will not deal with conflict or get involved unless it directly affects the bottom line of the company. When they do get involved they take no time to understand the underlying issues and will apply band-aid fixes to the symptoms. They then conclude they have done a fantastic job and that all issues company-wide are fixed. There is no follow-up to check the effectiveness of their "fixes".

There is a massive disconnect between what management thinks the employees do and what they actually do all day. I have heard the phrase "button monkey" thrown around more than once by management in an absolutely serious fashion.

Reviews process and compensation are subjective and obscure. There is no transparency with regard to who makes the decisions. Compensation discussion beforehand is non existent, they just hand you a piece of paper with your final numbers on it. You don't like the number? That's fine. Just leave. Their view is you are expendable anyway.

Culture is non-existent and not viewed as important by management.

    Advice to Management

Senior staff need to have in-depth technical knowledge of the pipeline and understand technical limitations so they do not over-promise things that cannot be delivered to clients.

Free pop and bagel Fridays is not a substitute for culture.

Stop thinking of your employees as expendable.

Mandatory people management courses for anyone in a position of leadership.

Mandatory ethics training for all upper management.

I have been working at RTT AG full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Stable staff positions with good benefits
-Now owned by highly profitable and sustainable parent company
-Good pay, bonuses, and opportunity for advancement with some patience and loyalty
    -Nice people
-Decent work/life balance for many positions; OT if you want it for the rest

    Cons

    -You'd better really like cars
-Work can be monotonous at times for artists
-If you make a name for yourself, you might end up working long hours in busy seasons (good for OT, but can cause dedicated artists to burn out)
-Management isn't always in touch with the effort and resources it takes to do the best work

    Advice to Management

    -Listen to your people
-Prepare for new work; don't just react to it

    Pros

They had decent pay, immediate benefits, it was a creative environment.

    Cons

Management changed it. They also promised there was NO downsizing once the acquisition took place. They surprised employees with indefinite downsizing lay offs just before Christmas. A good company will let you know what is going on.

    Advice to Management

Start caring about all your employees, not just the friends you hired in after you got the job.

    Pros

The work environment is fun, casual, and friendly. Talented people and cool projects.

Bonuses, raises, bagel Friday's, free soda, jeans, best parties.

    Cons

There has been lots of change, and it's very fast paced at times.

I worked at RTT AG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the colleagues were great people, the dress code was very informal.

    Cons

Directors who had no experience in 3D directing 3D artists. Management who had no idea how to better utilize artists time. Equipment ill-suited to 3D work. When I was there, no proper work pipeline, everything was done in a way that was not efficient or going to result in top quality work. Was told by team leads that I couldn't go home at 6pm because other people weren't going home at 6pm. They expect you to work till 10pm+, regardless of what time you show up for work. If your team lead shows up at 11am, you should expect to stay in till 10pm or later.

    Advice to Management

Actually hire directors and managers with 3D experience. Ask artists opinions on equipment before buying anything.

I worked at RTT AG full-time

    Pros

The Artists and TD Team. Free pop.

    Cons

Novice to completely incompetent Management (who lack the basic fundamentals of leadership). A business development team that can't comprehend what is RFP from a business requirement. Very little support and you will work tons of hours and never get compensated for it.

    Advice to Management

Provide leaders with leadership training. Provide education reimbursement to all employees. Management (especially the Director level) should read a few books on leadership. I recommend all employees start looking for a new employer.
