I have been working at Rackspace full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This is such a fun workplace. Everyone is really nice and everyone gets along quite well with each other. If you work for Rackspace, you will learn tons of stuff about the industry. For the most part, Rackers treat Rackers like friends.

    Cons

Benefits are not the best in the industry and for a leading company in this industry, it is one of the lowest paying companies.

The company has a great vision. But they lack organization.

    Advice to Management

Organize yourselves and if you are going to preach transparency, please actually be true to that core value.

I have been working at Rackspace full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people - super intelligent folks. Hard workers. There are some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure to work with - unfortunately, their work is sullied by the politics - see below. There are folks I've met there whom I trust implicitly.

    Cons

TL/DR - it's like high school all over again.

Some mistakes re: poor hiring into leadership positions made in the early years are being institutionalized. This is the modern equivalent of a "good ol' boys club". Office politics run rampant - internal (personal) marketing campaigns mean more than actual business results.

There is a lack of critical thinking or analysis applied to many issues. Sufficient application of enthusiasm and BS is enough to get past the most cursory of examinations. If you have no integrity or no qualms about blatantly placing self-interest above all else, this is an environment in which you can thrive. If you do have integrity or choose to place the interests of the company or others above your own, you will be beaten at every turn by those with questionable ethics.

I've seen several people deliver business results while tending to the relationships on their team - I've been close enough to see both the metrics and the relationships involved in the situation - and yet get passed over for promotions, or even forced out of the company due to petty office politics.

    Advice to Management

Get back in touch with the CORE values. Get back involved in the business. Get involved in the culture. The overriding emotion is FEAR due to a lack of trust in many in leadership. Those poor choices in leadership positions are gutting the confidence in the entirety of the business.

I have been working at Rackspace full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Casual work environment.
    Freedom to be creative.

    Cons

Too casual work environment: bare feet, hovering helicopters, banging on desks, constant yelling, required fun. These things are fine but a daily, on-going occurrence becomes a distraction and nuisance. This does not bode well when co-workers are trying to speak with customers and/or tour them through the facility.

Leadership needs to provide a regular vision of the company's direction not just 'ideas.' Without a vision teams have limited/no foresight as to milestones nor goals. These fosters random acts of experiments and energy not channeled towards a common end state.

    Advice to Management

    Re-focus on quality.
Provide regular company vision and divisional goals.
Slow the employee shuffle between positions and only hire candidates who are qualified for the position.

I have been working at Rackspace full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You have a lot of training opportunity here and can grow in leadership or technical experience. Coworkers are great and culture is pretty good but you can tell it's a little forced now.

    Cons

Below average pay, company direction changes too often.

    Advice to Management

Remove unnecessary positions and raise salary to competitive levels to retain talent.

    Pros

Strong sense of culture, laid-back work environment, upward mobility, strong support system from managers. Leadership demonstrates sincere interest in individual employees.

    Cons

Sales objectives and quotas change often, as does the company's marketing approach. In order to succeed you need to be highly adaptable to change.
