    I worked at Rackspace full-time

    Pros

Great culture, great people, fair pay, a lot of lax in your day-to-day responsibilities

    Cons

The company turned corporate recently, focusing a lot on the bottom line and bringing in "outside" executives that aren't familiar with the culture

I have been working at Rackspace full-time

    Pros

Working at Rackspace ensures you will have some of the best, smartest, and most dedicated teammates anywhere. Supporting a huge variety of customers across multiple private and public clouds is an ambitious mission, and Rackspace is making changes every day to do that job better and better.

    Cons

There's massive turnover happening right now in C-level and upper management. That is not necessarily a con in itself, but inevitably creates a bit of turbulence.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the customer - it is long past time to provide a seamless experience across the portfolio. Monitoring, reporting, and billing should be comparable across everything we sell and support.

Occasional long hours, and employees sometimes slip through the cracks.

    Pros

Rackspace has an open floor plan that encourages quick collaboration, teamwork and easy ability to build relationships. Rackers are a focused group whereas everyone is diligent about getting their jobs done and then some. Most go above and beyond their job responsibilities. They have a good balance of the work/play dynamic that works for just about everyone. Great culture that's hard to duplicate. It comes from the Rackers, not management.

    Cons

Environment can get loud at times and may be hard to focus when that happens.

    Advice to Management

    Encourage the current culture.

I have been working at Rackspace full-time

    Pros

For the most part, leadership is very transparent on changes to come. There is an open door policy and the majority of leaders never mind skip level discussions.

    Cons

Some leadership demonstrates favoritism, which narrows opportunities for those that aren't part of the favored groups.

    Pros

Decent pay, good benefits, lots of time off

    Cons

Not the same place it was a few years back. Technical Racker's aren't given the appropriate compensation and teams struggle with being overworked while customer base grows and talent leaves without much in the ways of backfill. I loved this place a few years back, now its reached the "Just a job" status. It's definitely a great place to grow technically though

    Pros

Great culture and a number of world class developers, designers, managers, and teams there that really pushed me professionally and who were truly a joy to work with. Depending on your team, Rackspace has a great remote-friendly culture as well. They have done a good job of recruiting talent and have nationally competitive benefits/pay.

    Cons

Depending on the organization within the company, women developers have few (or sometimes no) peers. Career paths are pretty rigidly defined, and if you don't fit easily into a certain box and happen to belong to a marginalized group, chances are that opportunities won't be created for you the way they are for your peers. When management expected me to take on management duties without a raise or title in an environment that was rife with political battles, I decided I'd do better to grow my career elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Help teams move in a common direction. Too often I worked on teams who, though not in overt or direct competition with each other, were working on projects with competing objectives. Duplicate work, lack of shared strategy and vision, and squabbling among middle management contributed to a lot of pain and frustration for talented team members when I was there.
