Still declining
Oct 21, 2022 - Cloud Engineer in San Antonio, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Vacation plan is pretty good.
Cons
As indicated by our stock price, the company is fading. It's abundantly clear that our upper management has no idea what's going on and they continue leading the charge with big words and no action. Outsourcing is at an amazing record high to the point our CEO was just outsourced to India. Turns out India is too expensive, we're now entertaining places like Egypt. I can't understand them and they can't understand me, but at least someone answers the phone, I guess. Rackspace has an official Glass Door astroturf team. They're easy to spot. Just look for the non-human, canned wording. They'll say something about 'Elastic Engineering.' Nobody knows what that means, by the way. The reward for doing a lot of work is more work. This has resulted in most people mentally checking out. There's no punishment for doing poorly; no reward for doing well.

Where good companies are bought up for their talent and forced to wither away.
Aug 10, 2022 - Cloud Software Engineer in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Their initial salaries for cloud engineers might be alright. Their culture isn't the absolute worst.
Cons
My company (Onica) was bought by Rackspace, and the great treatment we god from Onica immediately vanished. Our yearly performance bonuses shrank, our yearly raise dropped to less than 2%. My friendly managers tried getting us new titles for the pay raises associated with them at least, and that was denied by Rackspace's management too. All of the talent from Onica's acquisition left Rackspace for a reason. Rackspace killed the positive culture Onica had. Rackspace's culture isn't the absolute worst in the industry, but it's absolutely nothing special, and they still don't care about you.

Pros
Rackspace has giving me the opportunity to grow personally and in my career. It's the place where hard work pays off and rewarded. Not to mention the large amount of Personal time off we get.
Cons
One of the con's I've had for the longest was the opportunity to grow my career in the remote locations. That has changed due to the pandemic and they are now allowing more opportunities remotely.

Doesn't understand business
Nov 17, 2022 - Director Cloud ConsultingRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
If you're acquired (Which happens regularly) you'll be left alone for a little while. Those are the good days.
Cons
ELT doesn't understand Cloud or the consulting business model. Lack of focus and lack of vision to make a good company based on good people and focus on doing what's best for clients.

Pros
Interesting projects, opportunities to learn new technologies and work with different kinds of clients
Cons
Onica was a great company to work for until it was acquired by Rackspace. Rackspace only cares about the bottom line and will be happy to offshore your job to save a penny. They had the audacity to give most engineers at Onica a 0 percent raise despite being their best earning BU. After everyone started leaving they tried to backpedal and give some people raises but it was too little too late. They charge clients a large multiple of what they pay us and are making a huge margin off of our hard work and yet still give raises below the rate of inflation.

Overall a great experience working at Rackspace
Sep 6, 2021 - Cloud EngineerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I was originally part of the Onica team that Rackspace acquired in 2019. Acquisitions can go poorly in the business, but this one was actually pretty great. We did lose a little of the flexibility that we had as a smaller company, but Rackspace did a pretty good job of not messing with what had made Onica a success. in fact, they adopted some of the things that Onica did and made it a permanent part of the company offerings for customers. Notable pros: - I got to work with a wide variety of engineers that had a sorts of backgrounds. I learned a ton from many of them. - My direct manager was fantastic. I could not have asked for anyone better to work with. - I worked with a vide variety of AWS services and tooling that is wildly in demand right now
Cons
- Pay was a little on the lower end of the spectrum for cloud engineers these days. - 401K matching was low compared to what a lot of other companies give - It was difficult to gauge when you could move up to the next level in your org
