Wide range of physical, virtual, and OS platforms to work with. Rackspace supports its own cloud systems, AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
Cons
Lots of ad hoc work, not a lot of opportunities for long-term project work.

Company culture is dead
Jan 10, 2021 - Linux Systems Administrator in San Antonio, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great work/life balance. Not much else.
Cons
Most of the top talent has left for greener pastures, leaving behind people who can't easily get a job elsewhere. CORE values like transparency have been removed. Rackerpulse ignored year after year. Pay is not competitive.

May 26, 2015 - Linux Administrator I/II in San Antonio, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
People here are often very smart. I usually felt quite valued on my team and my boss was absolutely fantastic. I loved the people I worked with. The work wasn't too bad for my team as well. The work life balance is pretty awesome. Generally time off is approved and you get a lot of it. Working holidays is a great way to boost your time off if you don't care about a particular holiday! It was really conducive to me traveling which is something I absolutely love.
Cons
Their pay is fairly low and they are cutting benefits. They are "corporatizing" as you might expect of a company this size. You definitely feel trapped, *ESPECIALLY* if you are on second or third shift. Do you wanna get off 3rd? Say goodbye to 15% of your salary and some of the benefits of third (namely 4/10s). Do you want to get a promotion or out of your department? Good luck, they'll hold you hostage in your department as long as possible, and try to keep you from getting jobs elsewhere in the company.

A golden opportunity to get started in the industry.

Rackspace is many things, and will of course vary slightly from team to team. If you have the chance to get in as a Linux Administrator, TAKE IT if it's your first step into the industry or you need a break from the external norm. The 9-5 is respected here and even enforced. You have smart people all around you that will usually stay for at least a year, as well as a fun environment and fun coworkers.
Cons
Pay. The pay here is quite terrible for the industry as a whole. Rather than increase it they are simply hiring more people as more people leave for companies that pay competatively. Ticket crunching. The queus are increasing and headcount is always changing. Depending on your manager and department you may have to ensure you are giving it your all day in and day out, which can result in burnout if not careful. Low impact. Unless you work very closely with someone influential whatever projects you create will not likely see the light of day beyond your own repos. To their credit they have been working on this by offering rewards for good ideas that get implemented, but the program just started so we'll see how it goes. The good news is you are allowed to push to your public github depending on what you work on, so it's not too terrible.

Good company not a lot of opportunities
Oct 15, 2020 - Linux Administrator in San Antonio, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Tons of areas to shadow people
Cons
Not a lot of hiring available. In the two years I’ve been here, only two opportunities have come available to move up to the next level.
