I worked at Radio One part-time

    Pros

Working with new people! Meeting celebrities every now and again!

    Cons

Unprofessional; management blatantly showed favoritism, draining hours for low pay and no overtime, etc.

    Advice to Management

Stop showing favoritism and stop the gossiping. That's all you all seem to do well-- gossip about each other.

I worked at Radio One part-time

    Pros

Upper management and even Cathy Hughes herself are very accessible. They make you feel welcome to reach out to them. They are visible around the stations without it feeling overbearing. Everyone knows everyone. They're very involved in the community. Great for the experience. Get to work with celebrities. Very involved in the African-American community and puts that as a priority.

    Cons

NO GROWTH! On the rare occasion someone is climbing he ranks significantly it's often because of who they're friends with or who they are related to. No mentoring. Low pay. Plagued by the crabs in a barrel mentality. This is the type of company wants everything for nothing. They want your weekends, holidays, they want you to stay late, they want you to take on more responsibilities, they want you to be practically on-call everyday; they want as much as possible without even an extra .50 cents for your work. Not even health insurance.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees. Reward merit. Take some risks. There's so much opportunity within the company that is being so sadly missed out on because it insists on being run like it is still the 90s. Understand that people working 30-40 years for one company is not the norm anymore. Do not expect for people to wait 5+ years for some sign of appreciation or one step of growth.

I have been working at Radio One full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The culture, the product, the benefits and perks are great. Also, plenty of paid time off and half days.

    Cons

Once a person leaves it takes forever for them to hire a replacement which results in people being overloaded with work. They rely on sales assistants too much and don't hold sales people accountable.

    Advice to Management

Train your sales people better on all aspects of the job- not just the face to face with clients.
