I have been working at RadioShack

    Pros

You learn a lot about small components and how they function in an electrical circuit. You also gain a lot of general knowledge about electronics that puts your understanding of how these devices work way above that of the general public.

    Cons

Terrible hours, either not enough or too much, also weekends are required usually. The pay is extremely low for what you know. Other people that know 20% more than you about any one thing in your store are making twice what you do to work with that one thing. The customers are a pain in the butt and honestly will make you hate human beings. It never becomes any easier to bare the stupidity of the general public when they...

    Advice to Management

Start buying product that reflects the brand name, stop competing with Wal-Mart, they are way bigger! And start paying your employees more, maybe they wont be so bitter.

Work on the sales aspect of the business

I worked at RadioShack full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Monthly bonus if you beat sales goal (rarely) goals are to high, commission not worth it, 1 week vacation able to buy an additional week, 5 days sick time, discount great on some items,

    Cons

Long hours, 5-6 days a week all 8-12 hour days, inventories your store and other stores until 2am usually opening your store the next morning so very little sleep, daily inventory check sales planner, visual guides, cleaning the whole store daily, mean customers, communication from upper management to store managers isn't very well, manager meetings monthly then returning to work after a long day at the meeting. Advice to Management

Employees and customers taking inventory and money lots of stuff on a managers plate plus they want you to be the leading person in sales in your store but you have 100 other things to do plus the random calls from the district manager telling you to do another thing and to send him pictures of it when your done. They want weekly pictures of your sales planner pictures after you set them up. Can be very stressful. Expectations...

    Pros

Discounts on company brands is about 50%

    Cons

Lots of overtime, Constantly advised to deceive customers, they do not care 1percent for their employees and this company has the highest turnover from any retailer I have ever worked for

    Advice to Management

Let your managers do their job and MANGE their store! Also once the company picks a direction to go with, actually take some time and follow through with it!!

I worked at RadioShack full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Pros of working at this company....You meet people from all walks of life and create opportunities to "network". You also learn to work within a given budget and how to maximize profits! Profits equal Bonus for this is a commission driven business.

    Cons

Typically, new store managers are given the lowest budget stores with high inventory losses...which of course can affect your profits....and therefore your commissions.

    Advice to Management

Often new store managers are promoted or given a store based on their consistent high sales performance. Very little training is focused on the operations side of the business; which is just as important as the sales. More focus should be given on handling the operations side of the business to produce more rounded store managers....and therefore highers sales forecasts!

I have been working at RadioShack full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great learning experience was able to learn quiet a bit from senior store managers about electronic components and how to put them together, half-way decent 401k program with some company matching.

    Cons

Inconsistent upper management unclear goals, huge lack of integrity, poor work and personal life balance, tons of hours worked and extra projects to be worked on that puts you behind in your owns stores needs no extra benefit for going above and beyond, frequent manager bonus payout restructuring to always keep you behind even when you were ahead on goals.

    Advice to Management

Grow some integrity, listen to the team members in the store they are with the customers day in and day out . The people that work for you are just that "People" they are not robots they have basic human needs show some decency and cut people some slack.

I worked at RadioShack full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

This has been a fun and rewarding job. While sometimes upper management and corporate policies could be annoying, redundant, or out of touch; the overall atmosphere was fun and family like. My employees were truly great. I enjoyed helping them develop while developing into a stronger leader and better salesperson all the time myself. The benefits were pretty good, and time off was usually not a problem if requested in...

    Cons

Sometimes corporate policies were out of touch with reality in the store. Sometimes a good concept that does not translate well to reality is worse than winging it. Too many metrics were being tracked, but I have heard that this issue has been corrected.

    Advice to Management

Give a little more control of the store environment to the actual managers who are working there everyday. If your district managers do their job well, there should not be a store manager that you can't trust to make good decisions on their own.

I have been working at RadioShack full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Benefits, As a store manager I can set the atmosphere of the store.

    Cons

Upper Management micro-manages EVERYTHING, UNREALISTIC sales plans, Changes policy continually making it almost impossible to remember what the new policy is. As store Manager I work on average of 50-60 hours a week, 6+ days a week on average with extremely crappy pay, Have to work EVERY WEEKEND without fail.

    Advice to Management

Give every store back the ASM program. Give the Store Manager more time with their family, Pretty much stop crapping on the managers.
