I worked at RadioShack full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    -My team was great.
    - Discounts were nice.
    - Learn a lot about electronics, sales, and retail in general.
    - Meet a lot of nice people.
    - Really nice training system for new people.
    - Even part-timers received some benefits when I was there (such as health insurance assistance and vacation pay).

    Cons

    - Employees aren't people. They're numbers in a system.
    - Anyone above the store level had no idea what they were doing half the time.
    - Company suffered for years under poor decisions.
    - Mobile sales encouraged above what people actually came in for.
    - Policies made only to be broken. Doesn't favor the employee's hard work in making sure things run smoothly.
    - Stores constantly short-staffed or shorted on hours.
    - Chaotic schedule due to store hour limits and short staff. It wasn't uncommon to have no one and no hours to fill shifts.
    - High turnover.

    Advice to Management

It's a little late now with two restructures, but they should've been focusing on selling what made them great in the first place instead of focusing items such as game consoles and cellphones at a loss of time and public perception.

Treat your employees as intelligent people and individuals. Mutual respect goes a long way.

Provide the stores with enough hours to fill the day. Let the stores determine what they need. Hire enough people to fill shifts. Treat them with respect.
