I worked at Rain Bird full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of broad experience based on minimal staffing. Opportunity to grow for top performers, only. Not having to worry about job security, because you are always being evaluated for elimination.

    Cons

Stifled word environment. Excessive justification for bottom up projects, minimal justification for management pet projects. Leads to lack of direction. Retroactive promotions if any at all.

    Advice to Management

The complete HR organization is broken. Replace it.

I worked at Rain Bird full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great environment, lots of opportunities, good wages.

    Cons

The upper managing does not believe on workers capacities and does not provide career enhancement opportunities.

    Advice to Management

I do believe that providing opportunities to the workers show their capabilities and delegating them jobs opportunities, is better to reach out higher results.
Definetly this is more profitable than working on numbers and cost reductions!

I have been working at Rain Bird full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent place to work for driven individuals. You're given room to prove your worth and top performance is rewarded.

    Cons

I wouldn't consider the company a fun place to work. I would say that there is high turnover rate and lack of stability in certain work-groups. HR is not extraordinary.

    Advice to Management

    Review the benefits program.

I have been working at Rain Bird full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay is good. (That's what draws you in.) Working with some very outstanding engineers and overall nice people at the lower levels.

    Cons

There isn't enough space to write all of the cons. All of upper management needs to be jettisoned and that includes the president. I have never seen a more inept gathering of managers, directors, VP's, etc, in my entire working career. (35 + years). The attrition rate would make some "normal" companies blush. You will be over worked. You are treated very, very poorly. Do not ever think for a minute that you are unique. In the eyes of upper management, you are quickly dispensable and can be back filled with another warm body. It really is sad. Beware of that oncoming bus, your manager will be more than happy to throw you in front of it!

    Advice to Management

Sell the company! Really, there is no reason to post anything here. No advice will be looked at let alone acted upon. For years, people have given exit interviews with their thoughts on how the company/management could improve itself.......nothing has changed. The same players are still in their same positions. Again, so sad.

    Pros

They use the golden handcuff approach to attempt to retain highly skilled people. The product serves a purpose for the public for keeping grass green and general irrigation purposes... thats about it for the Pros

    Cons

The biggest group of incompetent Sr. managers ever assembled in one company. They utilize archaic methods of intimidation management to negatively energize the workforce and make employees fear for their jobs. There vision goes no farther than monthly profit reviews centered around keeping the owner happy and avoiding getting on the wrong side of his typically wrong perceptions of how well or poorly the company is operating

    Advice to Management

Owner should sell the company and allow others to clear out the incompetent sr. management staff to hopefully recover any value left of the company.

    Pros

Excellent products and production, good research and willingness to listen to contractors.

    Cons

You are never right, our way or the highway, terrible management, once in upper management you are never up to their standards, even when your producing good outcomes, just look at reviews and turnover.

    Advice to Management

You all need to look in the mirror, practice what you preach, become a family and not feud and quit looking for ways to eliminate employees.
