I have been working at Rainforest QA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I've met a great people during this wild startup ride, Rainforest feels like a second family to me. It's the best engineering organization I've worked for so far. There are plenty of opportunities to learn from seasoned colleagues. All pull requests go through code reviews, everything is unit tested, the CI/CD pipeline is properly setup, regular 1:1 meetings with peers and management encourages feedback sharing, ... Rainforest was remote friendly when I joined, it's working towards becoming a remote first company recently (global lunch program was started, the remote compensation formula was updated). The founders and the rest of the management are openly sharing everything about the business and everyones opinion is heard out. Working in a company like this is a great opportunity to learn what it means to run a business, since everyone gets exposed to lots of different challenges.

    Cons

It's a startup, which means things can get bumpy. We've recently went through a big change and we had to say goodbye to a lot of employees / friends. It wasn't a happy moment, but the logic behind the decision was sound, the company wouldn't survive if we continued on the old trajectory. Things had to change and I'm thankful our CEO had the guts to do it sooner rather than later. If you're not resilient to change, working at a startup might not be the best move for you.

    Pros

Everyone who works here is interested in getting stuff done and in helping each other do it. This means that you can make a real difference, and if something needs changing (in terms of process or technology) - you can change it. The ability to work remotely (internationally) means we have an excellent engineering team as we can hire the best people no matter where they are. Fred (our CEO) is very open with anything the company is doing - with biweekly AMAs where anything can be discussed, and reports on the company from the weekly exec meeting being passed down to the whole organization.

    Cons

100% remote work can be hard and requires top notch communication skills, but that's not a Rainforest specific problem. Because we have so much to do, sometimes changes can take longer than ideal to enact.

I have been working at Rainforest QA full-time

    Pros

Rainforest has a fair-salary policy. From my time being here and the discussions I've had with others, salaries is one of the hardest things to get right when running a company, so hard that most rule out fairness from the start. At Rainforest we have a formula for salaries. There's a base rate. For every dependent you have you get another 8% added to that base rate. Then the salary gets adjusted to the living costs of your home. If you have 12 kids, the formula stays the same. If you're trying to take advantage of living in a cheap town and working remotely, this obviously won't work as well for you. But the culture that this enables is worth it.

    Cons

not a single one I can think of

I have been working at Rainforest QA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

We work on a highly distributed team, giving us high time flexibility to work on the time it better suits us. We are also a highly horizontal team with no management, making decision as a team, which give us high creative freedom, but lots of responsibility about what we do.

    Cons

As we are highly distributed some communications can be hard as we work on very different timezones, it takes some time to get used to it if you have never done it.
