I have been working at Raley's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay is equitable for the hours you work. The feedback from management is mostly positive, whereas a lot of their competitors only give feedback when employees are not doing a good job, and get it done or else. So, you never really feel like you're on the receiving end of emotional blackmail. So, I look forward to my shifts. You'll nearly always get the amount of hours you ask for, and if you like working overtime, they aren't very stingy about offering it when it gets busy or if someone calls in sick. There are a lot of days you will work work afternoons, and evenings, but if you need to sleep in, or get things in your personal life done. It goes on a curve; you might work 2 or 3 days until 10 or 11/11:30 P.M., and then the next couple of days after from the morning to early evening. So, schedules are very flexible. I like that the management and employees have a good sense of teamwork. Nobody is on any kind of power trip about having to do anything that might be a little lower than their pay grade.

    Cons

Working 8 hour days is great, but unless you ask, you probably won't work a half day. I don't see that as much of a negative.

    Advice to Management

    None that I can think.

    I worked at Raley's full-time

    Pros

Raley's offers decent benefits and opportunities for their employees provided that you're with them long enough to actually get to enjoy them.

They offer better pay for the position of a deli clerk than some other stores do.

They're a bit more rigid on the policies and procedures for everything they have going on in the deli department, which is a really good thing when it comes to matters of food safety and public health.

    Cons

Unfortunately, the rigidity in the policies can lead to it becoming a very stressful work environment; especially if the deli happens to be understaffed (which happened to be my situation).

-They expect you to keep on top of everything constantly whether you have enough staff or not. If not, tough luck.

-In my experience, they made promises on a lot of things they didn't deliver on (like hiring more employees for my department or providing the training for a higher-paying position in the department they said they wanted me in).

-While you have your own managers for the deli department, you are also under the watchful eyes of the front management team. This can be both a pro or a con depending on the managers you have. In my case, it became a con.

To explain, because my department was understaffed... it was difficult to simultaneously keep up with the demands of both the customers and our regular daily duties. If anything was even remotely short of expectations or there were customer complaints... we'd get chewed out by the managers up front as well as by the managers in our own department.

    Advice to Management

Consider offering much better or special incentives (like increased pay) for departments like the deli. It's incredibly hard to find employees who are both willing to work AND stay in the deli.

  7. "Good people, bad upper management, low pay"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Good people, fantastic coworkers and managers.

    Cons

Upper management gives a very good and promising look, but will be extremely manipulative to get extra work from you. Promises of promotions, pay raises, and opportunities are freely given, and never upheld. Despite being consistently told that I was one of the best employees at the store, and consistently coming in number one or two in terms of sales and speed of work, I only received a $0.10 pay raise over the year I was there. This was despite the fact that I was willing and trained to work all departments, ran the store whenever a manager wasn’t available, and frequently came in when others called out.

    Advice to Management

Come through on some of your promises, or don’t make promises you can’t keep.
