I have been working at Raley's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great hours, friendly staff, great flexibility with school. I would really recommend this job to anyone starting out working who wants a decent pay.

    Cons

Always on your feet always running around retrieving items and cleaning up messes. Picking up carts in the hot sun or freezing cold.

    Pros

It's a family owned business. Since it is a family owned big business you are able to transfer into many different areas of retail and tranportation and warehouse. The pay is great at the main office and the people are all proud to work for such a big family owned business. I loved working for Raley's and I often brag about being an ex-employee.

    Cons

The biggest downside to working for Raley's is there lack of diversity. Raley's has a bad reputation for not hiring minorities.

    Advice to Management

Senior Management is great and very informative. I just think that the people they have in place are all on the same page when it comes to hiring minorities. No one says anything but they are all thinking it. There is an elephant in the room and senior management is the only one that doesn't acknowledge the omission of certain races in the main office.

    Pros

Positive work environment, good benefits, family owned and they take a real interest in the company. Being a local company it is easy to see your contributions and impact to operations. Employees work hard to provide excellent service to internal and external customers and most show a passion for the organization. Candidates and their efforts are celebrated fairly well and recognized.

    Cons

Room for improvement in regards to planning and communication. There are also opportunities for staff development. Raley's sits in the middle between SMB and large organization in many respects which can be challenging for operations and technology decisions.

    Advice to Management

    Strive to develop future leaders.

    Pros

It's a family owned company and the owners take pride in there company and respect the employees who work for them. They provide Great Pay and Benefeits and have excellent career advancement opportunities. Only company I've seen where a Technical position can scale Almost just as high as any Management position.

    Cons

Telecommuting is frowned on, and some wasteful spending. They are a bit behind the curb when it comes to technology for the customer and "self help" applications.

    Advice to Management

listen to your staff and teams "before" you acquire new technology.

    Pros

Great people to work with. The managers seem to always have the backs of the people. Many long time employees. Pay is relatively decent compared to some other companies for the same positions. Flexible daily time schedules and it seems everybody must work 8 hrs by 5 days every week.

    Cons

They seem to be a little behind on uses of some technology. Can appear as a little cheap sometimes. Many employees have been there a long time. It's a two edge sword. On the one hand, lots of business knowledgeable people. On the other hand, a little difficult for them to do things in a different way because they have been there a long time.

    Advice to Management

Trust and believe in your employees. Give more feedback on how we are doing or not doing our jobs.

    Pros

If you are a kid going to school, it is OK.

    Cons

Too many unknowns. Management is constantly putting fear into its employees. Very racist company. I personally was encouraged to give minorities a hard time in order to make them quit.

    Advice to Management

    Get some morals!

    Pros

For the job, the pay is good, especially if you live in a place with a fairly low cost of living.
There are plenty of opportunities to move up in the company if you are willing to relocate.
Working only 40 hours per week is great. It allows plenty of time to do non-work related activities.
When compared to many other career choices, this one is not very stressful, physically demanding, or intellectually challenging (for some this would be a downside).
Overall, Raley's is a well run company with competitive pay, a nice work environment, and chances for career growth and change.

    Cons

When you work at store level (not corporate), once you hit the top of the pay scale (which only takes a couple years), that's it. You'll never make more unless you want to change jobs. This is only a problem if you like what you do and don't want to change jobs.
You work at a grocery store. Not exactly an illustrious career. Many of your co-workers will be very young, some will be inexperienced and unreliable, and others are there only for a short period of time (2 years or less), which affects how they look at their jobs (temporary), which in turn affects their attitudes ("Who cares" or "I'm going to do as little work as possible"), which of course affects their job performance and the overall culture at work.

    Advice to Management

Before going to considerable expense to institute a new program or policy, do more research. Best practices may not be what's best for every company, just most. Make sure that you do a cost-benefit analysis based on solid, provable, unbiased information. Also, don't just discuss the possibility of a change with only the senior management. It needs to go through everybody that will be affected by the change, from the top at corporate (CEO) all the way to the bottom at store level (courtesy clerk). This will allow many potential roadblocks to be overcome before even starting the program. It will also allow management to have a more realistic grasp of the actual imoact the program will have, both good and bad.

Pay is decent. Do like getting time and a 3rd on sundays

    Cons

Alot of hard work, not enough coworkers to help out, terrible customers.

    Advice to Management

Ask the employees that actually do the work instead of coming up with ways u think would be great.

    Pros

Family atmosphere. Pay scale is above average for position. Excellent colleagues who care about the job they do whether it be a clerk to upper management. Encourages calculated risk taking and thinking out of the box. Allows for full accountability for managing responsibilities. Very little micromanaging. Extremely high business morals and integrity. Better than average employee longevity.

    Cons

No crystal clear 5 year plan for colleagues to get behind. Sometimes management can be less than professional in day to day management of employees. Less than best of class in data gathering and data integration.

    Advice to Management

A clear plan has been lacking for a while and upper management needs to come up with viable, attainable long term plans and then stick to them even if it means that there will be some pain involved yet tweek when necessary to keep the goals focused and attainable.

It's a good store. There are good products and produce. Pretty good benefits.

    Cons

managers are lazy. unrealistic expectations of getting the job done after all the cut backs.

    Advice to Management
