    Cons

senior management is very well paid while people who really work hard are not paid well. based on work hours out in my salay comes up to about 4$/hour!

    Advice to Management

People who make it happen are un happy. You need to really look at the salary structure and make it fair. Health insurance should be up to the industry standards.
Full time employees need to be given compensation for working late

    Pros

The prestige and name recognition of the corporation and great discounts (provided you have the disposable income to but the very expensive merchandise).

    Cons

    1. Promotion opportunities are not based on ones abilities but having it in with the boss.
    2. Employees expected to chip in to but boss very expensive presents (and worse the bosses actually accepting them).
    3. Expected to live the brand by buying the merchandise regardless of whether your salary permits it.
    4. An incredible about of favoritism and nepotism exhibited by management.
    5. Too many Inexperienced management totally incapable of managing employees.
    6. Incredibly long work hours that are expected but not appreciated.

    Advice to Management

Management, communication and diversity training would be beneficial in managing and retaining talent long term.

    Pros

Discount.... Oh wait, I have to type twenty words. Ok, well let me put it more extensively. Working at Polo, one receives a 50% discount on full price merchandise. 50% can still be too much with the average product costing several hundred dollars. But the discount is the only pro.

    Cons

Management was completely inept and the culture of the company is such that any changes that should be made are simply impossible. Big Brother was in full effect while on the job and everybody walks on egg shells the whole time. The commission based sales is fine but there is no rules governing the staff so it is usually like throwing a steak to hungry dogs. A horrible corporate culture that gets lost in the "glamour" of a high fashion company- you could be selling 2x4s at Home Depot with more class than this place.

    Advice to Management

Pay closer attention to your GMs and your Ass. Managers . They don't always have the competency to run the stores, and it takes you too long to make changes.

    Pros

Employee discount. 50% off on regular price and 40% on sale items. Stability is also a positive because they seldom fire anyone.

    Cons

No opportunity for advancement even though the company is massive. Managers do not have your back at all. Management is micro-managing. Poisonous office gossip. Unmotivated coworkers. Low paying salary (lower than most other similar companies). Work life balance is non-existent, they schedule meetings after 5pm frequently. There is a belief that you should be glad you work for them, not the other way around. People working there in the same positions for over 5 years without promotions.

    Advice to Management

Give people incentives to stay motivated and promotions. Empower people to make decisions. Train your managers to be good leaders and not micro-managers.

    Pros

Other than having the brand as a resume builder there is not much more positive I can say about working at this company.

    Cons

Management does not treat their reports with respect, long work hours, systems are not the greatest, negative work environment, very demoralizing place to work.

    Advice to Management

You need to learn work/life balance.

    Pros

they are very flexible with the schedule

    Cons

they give extremely poor hours! (8-12 a week) they're not professional whatsoever (favoritism is an issue) the managers lie to the employees they tell some that as part time you cant work more than 20 hours a week, yet they give others 20+ a week. they sometimes call employees to cut their shifts because "they're not making sales" yet they call others to cover that shift! so in other words.. they take peoples hours and give them to others!!

    Advice to Management

stop with the favoritism! dont cut shifts to give the hours to somebody else!

    Pros

    Great discount!

Learn a lot about clothing and how it's made, and how it will fit each customer.

Very easy to get hired! Will hire pretty much anyone!

Great job for high school students, or college students still living at home.

    Cons

Management is very "robotic" has no sense of feeling, respect or compassion for employees.

Most of the managers didn't even know my name after 3 months of working there.

Scheduling is done by a computer, so no room for change is allowed.

"On Call" shifts mean waiting around all day until it's time for your invisible shift to call and see whether or not you work.

Highest turnover rate in our area.

Treat employees like cattle ment only to fold shirts.

Max hours per week for part time employees is 20 hrs.

So many employees creates feeling of anomosity.

Dress code is very strict, and pretty much force you to purchase as many things "Polo" as possible.

The main interest is made very obvious that it is only about money. Not customer satisfaction.

Employees not allowed to talk to each other. At all.

Managers often forgot about employee breaks and you are not allowed to leave the store on your break. You must remain in the break room.

    Advice to Management

Please treat employees with more respect. Many employees feel like they cannot grow or advance in the company due to so many employees.

    Pros

Love retail, and Polo is a great learning platform for that...Great discounts as well.

    Cons

This is an observation after only working for the company several months. Not all has happened to me, but I have seen it happen to many other employees.
It's all about the money, and the hourly people that help make the corporation that money get treated poorly.
Have personally been lied to on several occasions by management concerning hours.
Will not allow you more than 20 hours, but at times you are lucky to get 5 hours.
They expect you to come in when called in even when it is your off day, if you don't, they punish you by taking you off the schedule or scheduling you just a few hours. (I have actually over heard this come out of management's mouth) Also the on call shifts are ridiculous. You have to wait around to see if you are "ALLOWED" to come in, and if they don't need you, your whole day is wasted! I have actually had 3 call in shifts per week at times and all 3 of those days were spent waiting to see if they needed me, which most of the time they didn't.
Been scheduled for and called in and after a couple of hours have been sent home because sales were down, not even worth the gas to come in at times!
Employees are talked down to by specific managers all the time!
Management only care about themselves and put so much pressure on their employees to complete what corporate requires so that they don't look bad.
Even though they will work around another job schedule, they want Polo to be the first priority,(even when only 20 hours is the most they are allowed to schedule a person for), and generally will give fewer hours to someone who is trying to supplement their lack of hours at Polo with another job, so it does no good to even try and get another part-time job.
There is a tremendous amount of favoritism and it is obvious at times.
Management has no compassion at all for any of their employees, and rarely if at all shows any appreciation for hard work.

    Advice to Management

A note to all management ....treat your employees like people instead of like slaves. You will be suprised at what a difference that will make. I guarantee you it would increase your conversion, because happy employees will enhance a customers experience which in turn will increase sales!

    Pros

Great at giving time off and having a work/personal life balance. Summer Fridays are a nice perk.

    Cons

If your well connected than you are fine but if you are a hard worker then you will most likely be over looked. Don't take a job under your current level. Thinking you will get promoted is very unlikely.

    Advice to Management

It would be nice to work in a place that was not politics as usual. PRL is very political. Most poeple just want to come to work and do a good job.

    1. Politics! Politics! Politics!
    2. The Environment is bad.
    3. Polo Ralph Lauren is like a revolving door. Why do you think they always have job openings? And a lot of people never stay long.
    4. It’s hard to move up. Unless you’re a butt kisser.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employee better and maybe they will stay.
