I have been working at Ralphs part-time

    Pros

Within retail (ie: CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, etc), Ralphs will have the better and more supportive management. Staff is kinder and more respectful towards one another.

    Cons

They are understaffed with pharm techs, so depending on how busy a store you're placed at, shifts can get pretty hectic.

    Advice to Management

Hire more per diem pharm techs (for a float team) if you don't want to give full time employment.

I worked at Ralphs part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They have a union, it is hard to be fired if you worry about that. Flexible schedule at times.

    Cons

Benefits took a tumble after the strike and the newer contracts were just terrible. I don't know where they find their managers but I experienced some really bad ones. Had to report one for being inappropriate. Very little pay for the amount of work they wanted us to do including cashiering (minimum wage at the time was $9 an hour) and we're handling customer transactions... it was hard 2 years.

    Advice to Management

Hire competent managers and look at other stores and what they do well and do the same or better.

I have been working at Ralphs part-time

    Pros

Everyone seems generally kind at my location, I would recommend getting this job as it also has great opportunities for getting promoted if you express interest in a department and work hard.

    Cons

Management sometimes takes out stress on lower employees, especially if bad ratings or someone gets injured it makes the store look bad.

    Advice to Management

Just be patient with newer employees, encourage smiles!

I worked at Ralphs part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Customer experience,
    Organization,
    Flexible hours,
    (Mostly) Friendly co-workers,
    Weekly pay
    Active environment (Never bored)
Ability to change positions (Depends on seniority)

    Cons

Minimum wage (Understandable since it's for teenagers),
    Not enough hours
    Under staffed during busy times
Customers tend to leave trash and shopping carts everywhere
Homeless solicitors blocking shopping cart corral

    Advice to Management

Hiring too many minors (especially ones that quit after a week or two) causes loyal employees to lose their hours and work in an understaffed environment.

    I worked at Ralphs part-time

    Pros

    (i) semi-decent health benefits; (ii) scheduling flexibility; (iii) transfer within enterprise possible; (iv) local employer.

An excellent place to start your career if you don't mind working for free while you build your reputation for positive job references to get a real job that actually pays money for the work you'll do.

    Cons

    (i) routine practice of under-budgeting labor; (ii) unreasonable district/division management; (iii) nepotism & favoritism in promotions; (iv) meager pay.

This company is literally an embodiment of the Republican talking point - that certain jobs with slave wages are for young people "to pay their dues" before they could maybe possibly someday move onto the greener pastures. Except it still means slave labor, especially for those people who get stuck in these jobs for a lifetime.

    Advice to Management

We know profit margins are thin, but if you give more hours, maybe employees would have time to serve your customers better. Also, please please please please please stop promoting your incompetent friends and relatives to managerial positions - it only hurts the company in the long run.

    I worked at Ralphs part-time

    Pros

Teaches you how to work in an environment that stresses you out and that you hate. Deeper appreciation for the craft of keeping a grocery store together.

    Cons

Everything else. Coworkers, clientele, boring and unchallenging menial tasks, management style, all around terrible experience.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with less pity, instill a team mindset, have less changes in management.
