I worked at Rancho Solano Preparatory School full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Outstanding leadership and excellent teachers.

    Cons

Extraordinarily wealthy busybody moms who insert themselves into EVERY school activity, and complain to administration about new teachers. Yes, this is personal.

    Advice to Management

Educate your employees about school policies that might affect their job status.

I worked at Rancho Solano Preparatory School full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The kids and the families were amazing! There were some great and talented teachers!

    Cons

Administration is dysfunctional and misleading--there is a general sense of mistrust and just waiting for "the other shoe to drop" among the staff. There are no benefits for being a dedicated and passionate teacher. Pay and benefits are generally terrible. The primary goal is to make money. If you look at teacher turnover for a full year you will see it's crazy high--there's a reason!

    Advice to Management

Value your employees--especially those ones who are dedicated to you and the families. Look beyond immediate financial benefit and think about long term.

I worked at Rancho Solano Preparatory School full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Located in a very affluent city - Scottsdale

    Cons

Administration, teachers and parents are all problematic.

    Advice to Management

Run the school with the students' interests as priority. Treat your teachers as your most valuable asset because they are. Drop silly rules such as wearing of ties. This is the United States, not Elizabethan England.

I worked at Rancho Solano Preparatory School full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Loved all of my coworkers and students. Amazing families as well. Best behaved students I have ever worked with in my career.

    Cons

Too many changes... stick with who you are and be that! New curriculum constantly, new management, new requirements... just too much to handle!

    Advice to Management

    Value your employees

I worked at Rancho Solano Preparatory School full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The friendships that I made with colleagues ove the years.

    Cons

The revolving door that they created for faculty. The do not care about their teachers at all. Since the school was bought by Meritas, it is run as a business and the facilities are fabulous but no care or planning has gone into building the institution.

    Advice to Management

    Promote from within your faculty.

I worked at Rancho Solano Preparatory School full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The lifelong relationships built with teachers students and families.
The handful of amazing staff who truly care for the students and their coworkers.

    Cons

Everything is micromanaged. They think about money first before the students needs. There are a handful of good people who work there but most of everyone in the business office is a joke. They overwork you and do not appreciate the work you put into anything. The job security here is a joke.

I worked at Rancho Solano Preparatory School full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The kids. The students are phenomenal.

    Cons

mis-Management and lack of leadership under the new head of school caused 17 of 18 middle school teachers to go elsewhere at the Ventura campus. No opportunity for personal or career growth. Better benefits available at other area schools. Teachers are not compensated as well as other schools in the area. High school enrollment consists of so-called "international" students but is primarily Chinese students who are not fluent in English. Enrollment in high school dropped to about 70 students. Parent company, Meritas, oblivious or does not care about changes and seems to only care about the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Listen to teachers, parents and students.

    Pros

Colleagues are mostly friendly and make the overall work environment enjoyable. Opportunity for younger and less experienced employees to get a good start.

    Cons

Compensation is not comparable to other schools in private or public sector. Management is disorganized and focused mainly on profitability instead of the quality of the product. Unplanned and unexpected change is the norm.
