I worked at Randolph College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Challenging and encouraging environment.
    High level of interdepartmental collaboration.
Flexible hours for student assistant and work study positions.
Opportunities to learn new skills and network.

    Cons

There weren't many downsides to this position, save that salary was set at minimum wage for student workers with no potential to increase.

    Advice to Management

I was pleased with my experience working as a work study student at Randolph College and have no direct advice to improve the position.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Randolph College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

One of the things I liked best about working in the chemistry department was the friendly and encouraging attitudes of my superiors. I was encouraged to ask questions, be confident, and feel like part of the team. I was also appreciated for my hard work and praised accordingly.

    Cons

The student worker positions don't pay much (minimum wage), but because of the hands on experience I gained with teaching, lab protocol, and instruments - something that is so rare in larger universities - so the benefit of the position isn't really monetary compensation.

    Advice to Management

I do not have any complaints nor advice for management at this time. Both the professor and the lab manager I worked with were wonderful.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Randolph College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly supervisors, flexible hours. I usually have time to do homework while working. Friendly coworkers as well. Learned teamwork.

    Cons

I can only work a certain number of hours. Minimum wage. Other than that, there is not really a con working there.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Randolph College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Hours aren't too long. Get to tutor a range of different students while also improving your own writing and editing skills.

    Cons

Not very many because the only real con is when there are tutees that are hard to work with and that happens very infrequently.

I worked at Randolph College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

+Pay is the best in the region for academia
+It isn't sunshine and rainbows quite yet, but the work environment is much better than before with four years of enrollment growth (despite being in the middle of a recession and small liberal arts colleges failing left and right)
+Everyone absolutely loves the new administration that seems very responsive to students, faculty, and staff
+Small size gives plenty of opportunities to cut through red-tape
+Part of tuition exchange program for dependents

    Cons

+Pay is far below national average (but cost of living is ridiculously cheap, so that isn't a deal breaker)
+No tuition reimbursement for graduate coursework
+Effectiveness of VPs vary by department
+Still haven't quite left the "survival-mode" mentality, so management still expects an extraordinary amount of effort without additional compensation

    Advice to Management

+Be willing to ax VPs from the previous administration. Some are highly regarded by their subordinates, but many are not.
+Consider more ethnic diversity in mid-management/upper-management (there's no hint of racism on campus...but why are all the directors and VPs white, especially with such a diverse student body?)
