I have been working at Rapid City Regional Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Only work every 3rd weekend and they are flexible with shifts, whether you want 8, 10, or 12 hours shifts.

    Cons

Open 24/7 may have to work evenings and overnights. Also have to work some holidays.

    Pros

First, it's kind of the only game in town but aside from that, the employees are predominantly nice and well-intentioned. There are a few who act like you are intruding on their turf but that's true anywhere.

    Cons

Doesn't seem like there's a rhyme or reason for staffing ratios. Some departments have people sitting about chatting all day while others have staff running around like crazy people with too much to do.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to employees when designing procedures.

I worked at Rapid City Regional Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

New management really cares about the patients as well as the employees. Work is hard and challenging, but a good place to work. Family comes first when it is needed.

    Cons

Not enough employees. There has been change, thus growing pains

    Advice to Management

This is tough. You have to work hard and prove yourself.

I have been working at Rapid City Regional Hospital (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Executive management is taking a proactive approach to changing things
    - IT Compensation is good for the area
    - Strong Commitment to good change
    - Vision to be the best health care system in the nation.

    Cons

    - Older managers who have been there for a long time are resistant to change and hold employee's down
    - I am giving the old CEO listed (Tim Sughrue) a thumbs down in this review, however the new CEO Brent Phillips would get a hearty thumbs up if he was listed.

    Advice to Management

Take a good hard look at the management who has been there for 30+ years and ensure that they are holding to the new values that you want to ensure the best health care system in the nation.

I have been working at Rapid City Regional Hospital full-time

    Pros

Great friendly work environment, openings all the time

    Cons

Low pay and under appreciated, high acuity assignments.

    Advice to Management

    Increase pay.

  9. "Nurse Extern"

I worked at Rapid City Regional Hospital part-time

    Pros

Everyone was very helpful during my learning experience. I was treated as part of the team. I was there in a learning capacity and was treated as though I had a place and I had an important contribution to the team.

    Cons

Parking is awful, communication between units for transfers is difficult, staffing is an issue. Many units are staffed by a large number of travelers. Travelers do not seem to have the same buy in of the vision as the local staff.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the staff that actually have boots on the ground, get out of your office, see what is actually happening and not what the numbers say.

I worked at Rapid City Regional Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I really liked my co-workers. They hire good people, and everyone seems to work really well together.

    Cons

I did not like the patient to nurse ratio. There were not enough nurses to care for the more acute care patients. I rarely got a full 30 minute lunch break.

    Advice to Management

Management should be willing to work on the floor to help with high workloads.
