Pros
---Highlights--- - Company culture is big on teamwork and collaboration - Many learning resources and support channels at your disposal - Really great and unique opportunities for individual growth - Your success here is more in your control than you think - Company is going in the right direction in the security market (short- and long-term) ---Details--- There's so much great work happening at Rapid7 today and that's been happening over the past few years. The most important thing to realize about working at Rapid7 is that your destiny here is largely within your control, more than some people realize and more than you would experience at a typical medium to large sized company. This doesn't mean that every day working here is going to be a dream come true without any frustration or emotional turbulence. What it does mean, though, is that working through issues and challenges *can* be easier than at other, less exceptional companies. It's hugely important to realize that the Human Resources department here (called People Strategy) is an invaluable resource when it comes to dealing with, for example, work-life imbalances, negative team culture, or frustrating/obnoxious/offensive/overbearing coworker behavior. When working here, you should always be working with your manager on any issues you're having at work, but People Strategy is an essential resource to leverage if 1) you have a great, present manager but need a second opinion 2) you have a great manager who isn't around as often as you'd like and when you need help or 3) you have a crappy manager who is either causing the problems you're experiencing or isn't helpful in resolving them. On top of that, if you're trying to grow your personal skill sets, there are a lot of learning resources and opportunities at your disposal. Whether it's using online training classes, getting books ordered for you/your team, or shadowing other teams in an effort to make a career path change, it's mostly a matter of what you want to do/learn and when you can make time to do it (emphasis on 'mostly' - sure, there are exceptions to every rule). You can be successful, engaged, and excited working here if you're not afraid to ask questions, not afraid to experiment, not afraid to push yourself out of your comfort zone, not afraid to collaborate closely with many other people on various teams, all while realizing that you're part of a larger whole (not that you're just here to make *you* better, to work only/mostly on what *you* want to work on), working toward a common goal, and that you engage in that cross-company collaboration with a positive outlook, a resilient mindset, and an acceptance of the fact that you'll stumble, fail, and humiliate yourself occasionally. Also, as our CEO likes to say, don't be an a--hole. This isn't a perfect company. But it is unlike any other company that I know of. There are many opportunities to have a positive impact and positive influence here, and it can be incredibly rewarding if you honestly believe that you're in control of your destiny here - and then act on that belief every day.
Cons
---Highlights--- - Some teams can have a negative and sometimes toxic culture because of a few bad apples (partly because of bad apples in management positions) - Work-life imbalances can easily occur if you don't make an explicit effort to keep it in balance ---Details--- Any "con" you experience at Rapid7 needs to be tackled head on by you. Yes, there will usually be people around you - like your manager - who will see you dealing with an issue or being on the receiving end of a problem, and they'll proactively try to provide support. But do not expect that someone *else* will always be aware of issues you're dealing with, or that they will proactively help you resolve them (usually they will!) As difficult as it can be sometimes, you have to tackle issues you experience here head on. You have to raise them with your manager, whose primary purpose at Rapid7 is to support you. In some cases you should also work with People Strategy - they're not your typical HR department. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to check with them - even if you're not sure if an issue you're dealing with is a super big issue - when you're dealing with a problematic situation.

Great Company to Work For
Mar 24, 2022 - Security Researcher in Austin, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great culture that's hard to beat anywhere else; believe me I have tried but haven't succeeded yet. Company genuinely cares about its people and wants them to succeed and will make changes to assist teams in doing so. Teams tend to work well together. Highly inclusive of people and work very hard to make sure everyone from different backgrounds is properly represented and heard within the company. Excellent work/life balance and I've actually been told a few times to stop working extra hours cause its not healthy, which is a good sign of the company caring for its employees well being.
Cons
Lack of coordination between teams; whilst interteam relations are great, its often harder to get teams to work together with one another effectively, though this is slowly getting better and there have been some improvements recently. Pay here is on general slightly less than the industry average for the skillsets of the people here, however this is pretty much the only major downside that I can note here, other items generally can be worked around.

Love working at Rapid7
Apr 11, 2016 - Marketing Operations Intern in Boston, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- The company culture is relaxed but productive. Everyone is doing big things to move the company forward but it still has the start up feel. - All the projects and work I do make me feel like I'm making a difference at this company - They executing very strong marketing campaigns, and being able to take ownership of a campaign and help work through its production, execution and analysis is amazing as an intern.
Cons
- Since Rapid7 is still growing, they do have some growing pains like system processes and work flows, but they know they are there and are trying to fix them - Departments feel very separate, but Rapid7 tries to intertwine them through after work events such as Celtics and Red Sox Games, Thirsty Thursdays, and Networking Events.

ALL TALK NO ACTION
Jan 16, 2021 - Regional Sales Manager in Boston, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
They talk a good talk about their award winning culture and about how they treat people.
Cons
They don't follow through with that. It's all a show! There are so many ego's in this place and unless you are in the "clique" you are treated HORRIBLY. The sales leadership here think they are the best thing since sliced bread and they treat people like dirt. Nothing like they boast about it at all.
I'm so sorry to hear this has been your experience at Rapid7. While we have done everything we know how to do to bring people in and help them to feel included and a true member of the team from their first day forward, there's no doubt it's been a bit of a challenge in these "COVID times". Given it looks like you've started during that time, I'm imagining you have never been to the office/or had only been there for a short time prior to quarantine. That can lead to a less than optimal experience without the benefit of having build non-virtual relationships, etc. I would love to discuss with you, and figure out a plan to change this dynamic with you. Please feel free to reach out to me directly, and let's determine the best way forward so you can experience all the good things this company works so hard to achieve. - Christina Luconi, Chief People Officer

Great place, not without its flaws
Aug 20, 2019 - Manager, Software Engineering in Austin, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Very smart, dedicated and driven individuals. Culture is great and there is a really big focus on developing the people within the company (and promote them). As the company has continue to experience success, benefits and other perks have continued to get better as well.
Cons
Competing priorities can make it feel like chasing shiny objects some times (although it is getting better). Some organizations within the company are constantly spread thin which means getting things is sometimes difficult or that things will need to be done without prior review by the appropriate people.
