    Pros

Part of a large corporation, Precision CastParts Corporation, which should have meant a lot of corporate support

    Cons

Devalued the business relationship with HR, fired and eliminated senior level HR positions in favor of hiring junior staff for cost savings

    Advice to Management

avoid this organization unless you have no other opportunities available to you

I have been working at RathGibson full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It is steady work and a pay check.

    Cons

This is a company who's main concern is money. Quantity not quality. They are always looking for ways to cut pay, bonuses and benefits. This all happened shortly after PCC bought the company. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

    Advice to Management

Treat your work force with respect and listen to what they have to say. The all mighty dollar is not everything quality is. Give people holidays and Sundays off.

I have been working at RathGibson full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent INDIVIDUALS work there. Awesome stock purchase program.

    Cons

Management is completely driven by numbers, which is to be expected; but is amped up to the extreme because of the stress that the commodities market puts on the business, both on the raw materials and finished product sides. It puts people in positions where upper management decisions change quickly, with the unfortunate effect of turning people downstream from the decision into presumptive liars (in the eyes of the people they interact with) because the last three promises they passed along were changed on them.

High dissatisfaction among office personnel, with high turnover. "Collaborative" efforts to address issue have proven to be window dressing, with no real effort or commitment by anyone at any level of management (other than to "communicate better" and facilitate more meetings about the problem). I've seen sharp people work here for less than six months before we're buying them a goodbye cake.

There is a substantial feeling that RathGibson is the equivalent of a "flyover state" in the world of PCC (the parent company), in that we can complain until we are blue in the face and nothing will come of it...until something goes wrong (in the numbers), and then everyone seems interested in what's going on here.

    Advice to Management

Substantial investments are needed in several aspects, but the primary one is with the people that work here. Without it, you are going to see another wave of mass departures (which may have already started). I'm not talking money, necessarily, but respect (which money can be a part of).

I worked at RathGibson (More than a year)

    Pros

A lot of the co-workers are good people to work with
Decent pay compared to similar jobs in the area

    Cons

Management does not know how to run the company
Constantly running out of supplies that you need
Will lay off a bunch of people and then bring in temps for cheaper the following week.

    Advice to Management

You have lost countless good employees over the last couple of years due to how you have ran the company and have retained poor employees that steal and damage products and have low production numbers.

    I worked at RathGibson full-time

    Pros

Great compensation, benefits and leadership has a decent growth plan. Performers get advancement.

    Cons

High turnover rate among newly-hired employees reporting to the VP/GM level due to unclear performance expectations and excessive workload.

    Advice to Management

Organization is far too flat -- too many direct reporting relationships to the VP/GM causes numerous personnel problems, including unclear expectations. New hires reporting to the VP/GM have had about a 50/50 retention rate in recent years, and the only performance discussion that will be had is when being walked out the door, blindsided.
