I have been working at Rathbone Brothers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Friendly people and great reputation

    Cons

New culture coming in from the top and taking away the friendly, respectful culture which made people want to work there. Rushing in change that's badly planned and arbitrary deadlines. New blame culture and staff hanging on by a thread.

    Advice to Management

Take a step back and don't worry about taking the time to do things right. Get the staff buy-in early on and they will remain with you.

I have been working at Rathbone Brothers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Diverse nature of my role and working with colleagues at all levels of the business

    Cons

Investment directors still sometimes perceive the power rests with them which can cause conflict as the business becomes more corporate.

    Advice to Management

Keep on the journey but never lose that Rathbones magic.

I have been working at Rathbone Brothers full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Good career progression
    - Flat structure
    - Lateral movement is possible
    - Variety of training and development courses/programmes on offer
    - High calibre/engaged workforce
    - Friendly culture

    Cons

None that I have come across so far, IT systems are slightly behind other firms but many are in the process of being updated.

    Advice to Management

Maintain the current culture and structure

I have been working at Rathbone Brothers full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great culture, everyone is really happy and engaged in their work. You hear very few complaints from staff which is a real contrast to other financial institutes I've worked in. Management see everyone as an individuals instead of pieces that can easily be replaced, proactive in offering future training possibilities and seem to pride themselves on low turnover of staff. Work is really enjoyable and fast paced.

    Cons

Quite a lot of procedures and red tape which can be tedious but it's part and parcel of working in an industry regulated by the FCA. Banks and investment houses have such a bad reputation/negative public image after the banking scandal so understand why these precautions and measures are in place but sometimes it can make it difficult to do your job.

    Advice to Management

Streamline processes that relate to anti-money laundering and changing client static data.

    Pros

Flat structure, friendly atmosphere, encouraged to share ideas, free flow of information, and very little in the way of politics. At least no politics for the sake of politics. All in all, an excellent place to work for.

    Cons

Some of the IT systems could do with upgrading.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing.
