I worked at Raymond full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I spent 2 years working at the Raymond Corporation and loved working there. The people are outstanding, friendly, and active in the community. The culture of the company was familial (especially since there are/were a couple 3rd and 4th generation employees, so literally family), everyone knows everyone else and helps you out when you need it. Can't remember how many times on the dinky 2 lane highway in the winter I saw someone off the side of the road with 3-5 other Raymond employees stopped to help them out.

Has had tremendous growth in the past 10-15 years, after being acquired by Toyota. Currently one of the largest employers in the area and one of the largest Forklift manufacturers in the US.

They still do profit sharing, which is rare in this day and age. Throughout the year they might give you a gift card ($50-100) before a 3 day weekend or a turkey for Thanksgiving. In June they do a big profit sharing payout into your 401k, and in December you get a Christmas bonus, in essence. That's appreciated.

Working on bringing themselves into the 21st century in terms of technology.

    Cons

Now that 21st century statement only applies to technology, the work environment is still Mad Men. 6 foot high cubicle walls, no open areas, very little company provided perks while on site. Have a cafeteria that overcharges for the silliest things ($2 for 8 fried hashbrown discs?!).

Really inconsistent work/life balance policies. As a salaried employee, get mad at you if you are minutes late, but don't even bat an eye or say thank you if you spend an extra day or weeknights working. With its location being 25+ miles into nowhere from the nearest "large" town, zero company placed policy on telecommuting. Also seemed to vary from department to department. Would seem some departments consistently "empty" until an hour after the rest of the office had come into work, yet they always seemed to also be empty when everyone else left.

Dress code is archaic, and last I heard they were debating bringing back the mandatory suit and tie for male office workers. Gives an odd vibe when the factory (literally attached to the office area) has people in Megadeth t-shirts and jeans, somewhat intrisically promotes the divide between the factory and office area.

Don't get me started on the misogyny, cannot tell you how many times I saw a female coworker be completely ignored in a meeting or looked over for a promotion. My manager was extremely talented and the Executive staff leans enormously on her but they use her as a problem solver, not as the resource she could be.

    Advice to Management

Don't go backwards. Keep pushing forward, knock down some cubicle walls. Keep listening to your employees AND take their advice. Allow for some flexibility.

I worked at Raymond full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good work hours, decent pay, lots of employee family activities. Emphasis on safety.

    Cons

Little room for advancement. Absolutely medieval management is some departments. Favouritism and nepotism rampant. Some misogyny I've noticed too. Don't send your daughter there.

    Advice to Management

Great place to work if you have the right manager in your department. Keep a lot closer eye on your managers. I expect you'll be getting a class action suit soon, or at least a lot more scrutiny by the Department of Labor. Do you know what goes on down on the floor?!

    Pros

Company is great to their employees and provides great benefits. Very welcoming and is very involved in the community.

    Cons

A blue-collar type company with a good attitude towards safety and production. Work hours were always reasonable, and the work was rewarding.
