I have been working at Raytheon BBN Technologies full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work on challenging problems with smart people. Collegial and ethical work environment.

    Cons

Poor opportunities for advancement. The only way to get respect is to write winning proposals, and the deck is heavily stacked against you because BBN does nothing to discourage two departments bidding the same job.

I have been working at Raytheon BBN Technologies

    Pros

    Interesting work with smart people.

    Cons

    Work is reliant on contracts.

I have been working at Raytheon BBN Technologies

    Pros

Focus on quality over speed. Interesting projects. Smart people. Private offices! BBN has a great reputation and it is largely deserved. The resources and tools are usually good.

    Cons

Government funding goes up and down. Some projects are driven top-down by visions that are not productive. The fit with parent company Raytheon can be awkward as Raytheon is more of a large manufacturer while BBN is more of a research company.

I worked at Raytheon BBN Technologies

    Pros

Great exposure to evolving technologies; smart people; pleasant but nerdy work environment.

    Cons

The work force was heavy on MIT grads - and they are most male - few women - and nerd factor is high.

I worked at Raytheon BBN Technologies full-time

    Pros

Worked here for about three years. Surrounded by smart people you will learn allot. Would absolutely recommend as a great place to work.

    Cons

It was expected that you work long hours to get the job done. The only con may have been an occasional lack of work life balance. Honestly, that will be the case anywhere where you are even slightly challenged.

I have been working at Raytheon BBN Technologies full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Best reasons are the retirement benefits and working with smart people

    Cons

Every year more benefits are being taken away and replaced (maybe) with Raytheon's inferior benefits. When BBN was bought by Raytheon, the management made it sound as if both companies could learn from each other. Though as far as I can tell, nobody at Raytheon was listening or cares. It's more about following policy and fitting the mold than being innovative. The long term Raytheon folks seem more afraid to making mistakes and have to push every decision up several levels of management.

I have been working at Raytheon BBN Technologies full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

True meritocracy, where talent is rewarded and managers are held accountable Diverse and ever-changing work so you never get bored Smart people that are fun to work with Competitive salaries and benefits Well respected within the government research community

    Cons

Raytheon purchase is slowly changing company culture and eroding employee confidence and loyalty Short-term focus on profits Different business units compete instead of working together

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Raytheon BBN Technologies full-time

    Pros

This company works on amazing projects, mostly for the US government. Strong benefits and very flexible work environment. BBN is a legendary research company and it's fun to work alongside such smart people.

    Cons

Things are changing since the acquisition by Raytheon. Some changes are fine and expected in any acquisition. Others seem to be slowing down the pace of innovation and the ability to respond quickly to customers and new opportunities.
