I worked at Raytheon full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

17 Years experience working with Raytheon. Starting as a test engineer and finishing as the lead for the TEST and Support Team Pacific.

    Cons

Leadership that didn't always keep subordinates informed of job changes and what changes were coming down the pipeline.

    Advice to Management

Always inform your subordinates of any and all changes that might effect them.

I worked at Raytheon full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Invested greatly in training engineers a program management. Very disciplined with making key decisions with data versus emotions or politics. Very good benefits and pay.

    Cons

Getting too politically correct about social issues where it seemed the management was forcing down employees' throats. One senior manager claimed the site was filled with nothing but bigots. Seemed extreme considering programs had exceptional teams doing great work. Promotional opportunities seemed slow or not existent.

    Advice to Management

Great company and keep focus on program execution and taking care of employees. Outstanding leadership can overcome any adversity.

    Pros

Raytheon is a forward looking company that is good to work for.

    Cons

The defense industry is declining and Raytheon is looking internationally for additional business.

I worked at Raytheon full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people, stimulating work, genuine passion for quality and value

    Cons

Defense industry is still 70% of the portfolio and even though the business is well positioned in the market, neglect of this legitimate function of the federal government has forced business restructuring and downsizing. The company is way past using reduction in force to eliminate dead wood and is forced to eliminate excellent performers. Good performance evaluations are no guarantee of longevity with the company.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course. Remain true to ethics. Stay in touch with the good workers you have lost (invite me to the picnic like a retiree). Remember that this too shall pass.

    Pros

    Good pay
    Good people
Management seems to do a good job in Fort Wayne

    Cons

    Very big company
It's hard to know how to advance your career
    Low starting vacation

    Advice to Management

Could we change to a rolling vacation schedule? It would stop the "forced/mandatory/unavailable" vacation problems.

    Pros

Raytheon NCS has the best management of any place I've worked. I always had plenty to complain about at my other jobs, but not at Raytheon. Leadership tries to listen and improve things.

    Cons

Raytheon NCS primarily deals with military and government contracts. So, the culture is pro-military and usually conservative-leaning. If those aren't your views, then this company may not be a good fit.

    Advice to Management

We've taken employee surveys, and I appreciate that management is trying to improve areas that scored low. Keep up the good work.
