I have been working at Raytheon as a contractor (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Enough R&D work to put a smile on any engineer's face. If you like to spend time in lab, you are appreciated and program managers find you. Much latitude is also granted—schedule your day according to program needs, and find whatever resources are necessary for yourself.

    Cons

Health benefits slowly declined over the years.
There are endless trails of paperwork necessary to get anything done.

    Pros

Good people somewhat challenging and easy pace as you can get what you put into it

    Cons

Close minded people operations and equipment 30 years behind. Operates like a small business in Goleta. Not willing to learn industry standards to improve effectiveness and overall lacking of world class operations

    Advice to Management

Try to rethink management and operational approach and bring in a new mindset to help change the old ways.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Raytheon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - decent pay (HR has a tendency to low-ball so watch out)
    - good benefits (for which the employee cost is ^^^)
    - profit sharing (most will qualify but not everyone)

    Cons

    A B O V E

    Advice to Management

HR has no business handling compensation, None Whatsoever. Give it back to the hiring managers or at the very least the section heads.

    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Raytheon full-time

    Pros

good pay, no unpaid overtime. Overtime not required that often.

    Cons

too compartmentalized. People are not trained to work outside their scope of their specific discipline. Management carves out territories and does not allow folks to work in their territories unless invited. Probably due to charge numbers being used to monitor work.

    Advice to Management

Too much micromanagement. Trust the underlings. You hired them to do a job, so let them do it.... the underlings are most likely going to have better answers than managers because they are closer to the information and data.
