Great employer
Jan 29, 2016 - Manager, Systems Engineering in Andover, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I worked at Raytheon for over 4 years and had a great experience. The company provided many learning and growth opportunities. I was promoted twice during my tenure with the company, and my responsibility increased significantly. I felt like my management supported me and provided me with the career mentorship that I was seeking. I felt empowered and respected during my time there.
Cons
It can be difficult to work at such a large defense contractor company because of all the process and red tape. Things can move slowly, you have to be patient and pick your battles. That being said, if you learn how to work within the system, you can make a significant impact here!

High-Stress Workplace and Big Issues with Work-Life Balance
May 27, 2023 - Electrical Engineer in Tucson, AZRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Relocation package and sign-on bonus was great. A great place to start your career for the first couple years. 9/80 schedule is great and you get bonuses every year. There are a lot of great people that I had the pleasure of working with.
Cons
Hard to advance in your career, and difficult to change roles within the company. It is high-stress and hard to keep a work-life balance. I was working above my grade level but wasn't getting paid for said grade level. I was in line for a promotion for 2 years but was never given one, yet I would be "promised" one at every performance review. Had the unfortunate experience of being in a couple teams with a toxic environment, which made working on tasks harder than it should have been. Everyone there looked overworked, thus higher attrition rate. If you ever have serious concerns that needs to be addressed by HR, they will think of the company first and you last.

Good employer. Giant company.
May 22, 2023 - Senior Configuration AnalystRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Remote options are great if you can get a job that supports it. Christmas week off without PTO consequences is excellent. Lots of internal jobs through multiple companies under the Raytheon Technologies umbrella that you can bid on if you aren't happy with your current position. All managers I've had are great so far. Competitive pay and benefits.
Cons
Giant company comes with some downsides. Trying to change or influence internal policy takes monumental efforts. Entrenched bad practice carry-overs from years of doing things the wrong way are often ignored. Departments are compartmentalized in the extreme because of the size of the company and projects. Benefits are worse with the United Technologies take-over.

Raytheon name no longer holds weight in New England
May 6, 2023 - Principle Software EngineerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great people to work with Work is challenging and stimulating Competitive salary if you haven't been a lifer at the company
Cons
- Benefits have tumbled in quality since merger (Ex: went from high ranked 401k provider to the lowest ranked 401k provider in the country) - Business Units and Corporate HQs no longer in New England and focus no longer in New England - Company slowly turning into UTC values (not Raytheon). - Employee focus and caring is gone in place of focus on Wall Street and Executive Bonuses - They talk a good game with diversity and inclusion, but upper management LOVES their segregated parking - Quiet blocking of internet sites (not focused on security, but rather non-work related). - Latest internet blocking (coming soon): Employees will no longer be permitted to access personal email sites from company equipment. This will be a detriment to those employees working on programs. Another way to cut us off from our families while in the office.

Big company with many opportunities available
May 12, 2023 - Senior IT Project Manager in Plano, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Big company with many opportunities available. There are rotational programs and high potential programs thay offer additional leadership training and networking to help you be successful.
Cons
Because it is such a big company, it is easy to get lost in the cogwheel of business as usual if you don't have the drive within yourself to identify your dream position and connect with your management and the sponsors who can help you to get the experiences you need to get to where you ultimately want to be.

Going Downhill Fast Since Taken Over by ("Merger With") United Technologies.
Feb 24, 2023 - Sr. Electrical Engineer in Dallas-Fort WorthRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Bi-weekly paycheck Some what affordable health care Great HSA managed by Fidelity Holiday shutdown between Christams and New Years Day for most employees
Cons
401 (k) manager switched from Industry Best (Fidelity) to sub par, poor performing nobody. No more pensions. Small amount of PTO (lumped sicke days and vacation) Sporadic work. No long term projects to work on for most. If you are a "good engineer", you are overworked, on multiple projects. New hires have a hard time assimilating due to this. A hand full of the chosen engineers get all the work while everone else gets random tasks. Too many people STILL goofing off working from home or hybrid.

Pros
Benefits package, annual wage increases, employee referral program, 4 weeks of PTO to start, career development opportunities Open door policy with management Flexible training, and thorough training Work experience that's a real resume builder
Cons
Inconsistent management techniques Turnover Employees with potentially useless college degrees are favored over others without any degrees. Some employees are promoted according to race, gender, or other DEI factors, as opposed to merit Constant turnover of site managers Takes at least a month to onboard, because the onboarding process is painfully disorganized
