Is anyone not from the US? When did you get used to American food? I have been here for quite long but I still mostly eat Asian food (Chinese Indian Japanese Korean Thai Vietnamese in alphabetical order) so in the South, it was difficult to find good spots. Then I went to some of the established chains (Apple Bee’s Red Lobster Cheesecake Factory etc) and realized there wasn’t much for me to order. What would be a good way to get used to American food that most Americans eat?

Not the worst job in the world

    Pros

Flexible hours for student or those with other time commitments.Hourly money isn't bad for an entry-level job. You get to meet a lot of people. You get to work a lot on your acting skills.

    Cons

High stress environment. You may get treated like garbage by guests, management and coworkers alike. Hours can be late. You smell like garlic every night. Mind-dumbingly boring work. If you want to make decent money you can't slow down for a second or take a meal break. Working weekends and nights is practically required if you want to make money.

Not a long term career option for most people, but a solid company.

    Pros

It really depends on where your Red Lobster is located - in smaller markets away from the coasts where there is very little competition it is a great place to work. As far as restauarants are concerned you can make relatively good money most of the time. Was there for over 7 years - for the most part if you do a good job they will take pretty good care of you. Also, since they are part of the Darden family of restaurants (Olive Garden, Smokey Bones, Seasons 52), often when one of the concepts is struggling, the other concepts keep the company afloat.

    Cons

In a down market like we've recently experienced Red Lobster is one of the first restaurants to be affected - there are many less expensive options available. They need to remember that they are not a fine dining restaurant - they should strive for more of a "fun" environment rather than trying to appear "upscale".
