The "new" management style.. O tolerance, MEANS O tolerance!!!

    Advice to Management

I worked at Redbox full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Tower is an interesting place to work and they have tried to make it fun and inviting to creative talent.

    Cons

Constant turnover, no retention in critical positions, spineless Upper Management. Always seem to be reactionary.

I worked at Redbox full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay, personal time off and benefits
The people on your team are usually very good
Most departments get along and cooperate to get the job done

    Cons

There is no 5 year plan. Outerwall will bleed Redbox dry of cash until the disc and this company are no longer profitable.
Sr. Management is out to cover themselves politically and cash in their bonuses and stock grants.
Doesn't matter how well you do your job. You meet objectives yet still run out politically.

    Advice to Management

Look in the mirror and be honest with people. There will continue to be high turnover as they churn people through to try and save an aging soon to be obsolete technology. And try and get some better movies. How many VP and Directors do you need to purchase and market these titles.

I have been working at Redbox as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    I got a pay check

    Cons

I have never, ever worked at a place where people completely ignore you like you are invisible. The people are completely immature and very unprofessional.

    Advice to Management

Break up the high school mentality and make your people act more professional or fire them and get more mature people.

I worked at Redbox full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Pros was being on you own.

    Cons

I have worked for the company for 5 years and let go which are in the guidelines of wrongful termination due to discrimination.

The company truly and never will care of anyone on the Field Support level no matter what corporate pitches to employees. This is one of the worst Micro Management companies i have ever seen and the management in general especially Regional Supervisor and Regional Manager do not care about anything except metrics and cutting hours making you work more for less.

Your always in fear of getting a harassing email from your Supervisor on how bad a job you doing and how you went 12 mins and 2 miles over what your allowed to drive despite having a log detailing reasons for everything.

    No personal Life.

Have to store movies in home and they do not pay you for storage of their own property.

Mileage reimbursement barely doesn't cover amount for gas or wear and tear on your car.

Your guaranteed to buy a new car every year do to driving for this company.

Managers are always out to cover themselves they will always blame everything on you.

NY region is horrifically run by racist and degrading managers especially in the Hudson Valley region.

You will never advance in this company no matter how will you do.

Worse company to work for PERIOD.

    Advice to Management

Replace all managers that know how to manage. Meaning fire yourself.

I have been working at Redbox full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They got rid of all the pros. Not much good anymore.

    Cons

Trust is gone. They micromanage everything. New CEO (of Outerwall - parent company of Redbox) values shareholders more than employees.

    Advice to Management

A company that does well takes care of their employees. Not just lip service. Actions speak louder than words. If your employees feel that they are being looked out for, then they will take pride in their company again. Employees that take pride in their company have the motivation to do well which reflects in the company.

Honestly, what good do you think will come from discontinued bonuses. Reduced hourse, and reduced benefits.

I have been working at Redbox full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free movies, laid back atmosphere, somewhat autonomous position, generous paid time off, nice uniforms, wellness reimbursement

    Cons

Redbox has a "metrics" system in place that is flawed in many ways. Regional managers and above have an "untouchable" or "unattainable" type of attitude. The new route optimization program is ridiculous. One of the reasons I took the position is so I could run my route according to my personal preference. Sometimes life happens and you may need to make a Dr. appointment or pick up a sick child from school. The route op program eliminates any freedoms like that. My opinion is that, as long as you are completing your route accurately and in the time frame allowed you should be allowed to run it as you please. In the near future they with be tracking all field service reps with GPS. I have a huge problem with this. I feel that it is an invasion of privacy. What will Redbox do with this info? Sell it? It is not cost effective or necessary. They claim this will cut costs but we have not been shown how. The reports that are generated from discs loaded in the kiosks are grossly inaccurate. I have been written up twice based on these reports. I keep daily records of all of my daily activities. i.e. how many discs I loaded in to each kiosk, how many discs I removed from each kiosk, etc. The reports very rarely reflect what I record. I hear weekly "Disregard xxx report, it's wrong this week." I am a very thorough person and can guarantee the reports are wrong. Believe me, I am not alone. I think it is a way for the company to avoid paying out bonuses. Long story short, Stay away from this company. It could be a great company to work for but the micromanagement has killed team morale and will eventually be its downfall.

    Advice to Management

Chill out. Let us work. Visit with your Field service people and ask them for advice. They are your best resources in the entire company. Be more transparent and hold yourself / each other accountable. Spend an entire day with the field service guys/gals and not just an hour or two. You yourself run a route by yourself. Don't be a paper pusher and be more hands on. Reward hard work. Have an "open door" policy at every level of management. Be nice to people on your way up because you'll meet them on your way down. Apologize when you are wrong. The only correct actions are those that demand no explanation and no apology. Be decent.

I have been working at Redbox full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company offers great benefits in the form of medical , dental & vacations.
You are reminded of them every meeting!

    Cons

As a field rep your every move is micromanaged!
Now they are introducing GPS tracking to watch over the field.
Most of the field reps I know have had their hours cut by 15 to 20%!
They cut full time reps hours & hire in part time, 3rd party & seasonal workers.
This is not a company to build a future with - cuts are happening all over!

    Advice to Management

Re-institute some trust, responsibility & privacy back to the field & you might get moral
    out of the toilet!
