Pros
Friendly and supportive company culture. Some flexibility with work hours. Associate agents available to take appointments with your clients when you aren't. Great managers who truly care about your success. Food/snacks/drinks available at the office. Exciting start-up feel that utilizes technology to make you a more efficient agent.
Cons
Really hard to "shut off". The hours can get really long and client load can become difficult to manage. It can be hard to deliver the quality service that Redfin expects when you are managing a high volume of clients. Important to prioritize and stay organized.

Pros
CEO seems genuine, nice office space, free snacks, decent benefits
Cons
Unless you're in your 20's or 30's and want to work 50-70 hours/week for little return, don't even think about joining this company. They work people to death and it's getting worse. The culture is extremely cliquey and young - both in age and experience levels. People are promoted based on friendships instead of quality of work. You can speak to people about the problems (management/hr, etc) but nothing will change except that you will be pushed out soon after. Senior Management walks around with rose colored glasses, not wanting to acknowledge the way people are being treated. Company-wide meetings are very cultish and if you don't act like everyone else, they quickly cut you out. Several great annual reviews mean nothing because I am not the clone that they look for. Do yourself a favor and go to a different company - there are a ton out there with better cultures and respect for their employees. I will be joining one of them ASAP.

Awesome company with a great mission and passion for changing real estate
Feb 3, 2015 - Market ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I love working for this company. This business model is not for everyone though. The company gives you all your business and clients through the website so you're not out trying to get business, which in a traditional real estate model is how a Realtor spends 70% of their time. So at Redfin all your time is devoted to clients. If working with clients and negotiating contracts is your favorite part of the job then Redfin maybe a good fit. Some of the other great benefits to an employee position: -100% company paid health insurance - and it's very good insurance too. -All your expenses paid: MLS dues, e and o insurance, mileage, marketing, etc.. -In most markets (maybe all) you can still make your own schedule but to be successful you must open your calendar and be available during peek home touring times. -great promotion potential Great company values and culture that really encourage you to be your best and give your best.
Cons
After working for this company and reading some of the positive and negative reviews it is clear to me that a lot of things people mentioned in their reviews are market specific, meaning it all depends who the market manager, area mangers are as to how they run their market. So if you are considering a position and there is something your are concerned about go to the interview and ask the manager(s) about your concerns. They really give a lot of leeway to the managers to run their markets as they see fit.

Leads generated by website; health benefits & expenses reimbursed. Some really good people trying to make this a great place to work. Too bad they're in the minority.
Cons
No work life balance. Work 70-80 hrs/wk to earn less than $100k/yr. Too many managers promoted without the knowledge and experience to be successful leaders. People at top too narcissistic and condescending. Company culture was very good early on but disappeared as company grew and people were promoted without the experience necessary for their new roles.

Great company, low pay for Lead Agents
Jun 11, 2021 - Real Estate AgentRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Supportive and positive company culture. Everyone is nice, no matter who you talk to (HR, fellow agents, transaction coordinators, IT). Redfin hires excellent people. Health benefits are great.
Cons
Literally, the only flaw is their compensation. The pay is not commensurate with the level of work for buyer agents. While customers are handed to you and no lead-generation is required, your pay for that transaction is miniscule. The only way to make a decent income is by doing a lot of volume and letting support staff handle everything possible. That model doesn't work if you are a hands-on agent or for certain buyers who only want to work with one person. It seems like buyer agents take the financial hit so Redfin can offer sellers low listing rates.

A great company, with not so great organizational leaders
Aug 12, 2021 - Senior Instructional DesignerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
There is a great culture at Redfin where many employees really do try to live by the company's mission and values. The benefits are great, and the compensation is fair for the market.
Cons
Leadership is a continual issue within my organizational structure. It would benefit the company if a clearer vision were established rather than waiting to 'take orders' from others.
