    Loyalty is not appreciated

Jun 12, 2018 - Associate Agent in Seattle, WA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Flexible schedule and get to choose your own territory.

    Cons

There is a disconnect between the company employees and the associate agents since we are contractors. This model takes away a sense being a part of a work family and can feel quite lonely if you are a social person. The event pay continues to decrease each year. In order to make a good living you must have a completely open calendar and cover a large territory. Associate Agents are responsible for their own licensing fees, tax deductions, receive no benefits and no reimbursement for gas mileage. When you consider time over money, the pay is simply not worth it. In my personal experience, I have been working for Redfin for almost 2 years and was really desiring a more stable position that would better compliment my skill set. I am an artist, in college I studied fine arts and visual communications technology. I recently applied to the Product Designer position posted by Redfin. Two weeks later I received a generic no-reply email from Redfin stating they had reviewed my application and were going with a more qualified candidate. Not being chosen isn’t what was upsetting. It was disheartening to feel overlooked and under appreciated by the company I had been and was still currently working for. It would have been nice to receive a personal email or phone call inviting me to chat about my interest in moving up within the company. To offer guidance as to what steps I should take in order to move into that role is what I would have expected. The fact that I received no personal touch and an automated rejection email is shameful and shows a lack of moral character. This behavior tells me this company does not care about their client facing contractors or their growth. For these reasons I am moving on.

    Pros

Flexible schedule with lucrative pay on weekends and afternoons. Learning and getting paid

    Cons

You don’t get paid for booking but if you have to, and you will regularly, it takes coordinating with the listing agent, showing time, and the client- and then the client May cancel

Its going to be HUGE ( Redfin's agents pay-cut in Donald Trump's voice)

Dec 21, 2017 - Associate Agent in Columbia, MD

    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Flexible schedule (this is only to fill Glassdoor's requirement)

    Cons

Everything Else - Yet another pay-cut to every single Associate Agent (after taxes, gas, and fees you're pretty much minimum wage) - No reimbursement for gas - At least minimum wage employees are employees so they get some legal protection - Must fight tooth and nail for payment because upper manager decides not approve of your pay when a client fails to show (remember you're already getting paid minimum) - Watching their crummy cult-like video where they tell you they "care about everyone" (Jim Jones) - They don't care about their employees and their stocks shows (as of this review) - Very cultish (If you like bad news with a smile then, by all means, join Redfin!) - Turn-overs (I'm surprised I was even here this long)

    Deal Writing Agent (past AA)

    Aug 20, 2016 - Deal Writing Agent
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

ALL of your expenses from MLS fees to MILAGE are paid by Redfin. If you would claim it on your taxes, they pay for it. Full benefits and dental coverage -and they are excellent. Team support - BUT YOU HAVE TO ASK. If you are waiting for someone to magically know you are overloaded, it won't happen. Training resources. Again, you have to seek some things out. Ask your team for help if you need it. LEADS. Oh so many warm leads. More than a regular agent would have a clue what to do with and definitely more than you can handle alone. SEE ABOVE TEAM REFERENCE. Flexible schedule and paid vacation - if you've never been an agent elsewhere, this might make you laugh. As realtors, we are never really off duty. Our clients rely on us and will text, call and email regardless of our personal schedules. This is the nature of real estate. If you want uninterrupted downtime, find another job. As an AA, the pros are true flexibility of schedule, but be advised that in most markets this is part time no matter how much you open up your calendar. If you are transitioning from a full time job, I would recommend doing this on evenings and weekends for a few months. It's good extra money and you will build the experience they want you to have before promoting to deal writing agent or one of the other full time roles. They like to keep people in roles for at least 6 months. Bottom line, if you are not ready to work hard, you are not ready to be a deal writing agent. You MUST have good time management skills, and you MUST not be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and work on your vacation. Welcome to adulting.

    Cons

Most of the cons are really related to your own personal time management skills. You will get overloaded and it can be hard to know when it's time to ask for help. Your social life will be constantly interrupted by your cell phone. Welcome to life as a busy real estate agent.

    Pros

I like how my schedule is completely flexible and up to me.

    Cons

Not much bad I can say, winters are pretty slow but that is to be expected. I wish there was other flexible positions.

    Flexible schedule with decent pay

May 21, 2022 - Associate Agent in Austin, TX
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Flexible schedule that allows you to open or close your schedule whenever you want as long pending no tours are assigned to you. Tours are usually only 15-20 minutes per home and are low stress. Any question that's not related to the tour can be passed along to their lead agent, so when you finish that tour you're done and there's nothing else to think about. Pay can be good depending on drive time it takes you to get to the home you're touring.

    Cons

No benefits, but that's not expected since you're an independent contractor. It can take longer to drive to the home than the tour itself depending on how large of an area you decide to cover. No guarantee of tours or other events. People may no show or text you last minute to cancel after you've already arrived to the home for the tour. Cancel pay is only $25 (in the Austin market) which is better than nothing
