    Pros

Culture, diversity, work life balance in some departments is good, amazing insurance and free lunches. A company paid trip for those that qualify once a year.

    Cons

Pay has been going down over the years. Work life balance is tinkering in some areas since we work more to try to make up loss of pay the last year. Base pay has changed dramatically for many departments. It is a major concern.

There is nowhere that you'll learn more about real estate

    Pros

I worked for Redfin for four years - three and a half as a deal-writing agent and 6 months as a coordinator. The pros are too many to list - you'll work with terrific people, get top-notch training, and work in a really fun environment. The health/dental benefits are great, and they'll pay for your realtor fees and lockbox key, etc. You'll go on a really fun trip every year to the annual meeting with all expenses paid. Best of all, whenever you need help, advice, guidance or even just a shoulder to cry on, managers and peers are always generous with their time and advice to help you. That is the very best part and can be a lifeline when you get stuck with a tricky transaction or difficult client.

    Cons

The only real con is that a happy work/life balance can be hard to achieve. I always did a lower than average amount of deals, but this just means that you still have clients contacting you 24/7, there are just less of those clients (but buyers will still want to hear from you 24/7 whether you're working on 10 deals or 30). So it is hard to get a true break, so be prepared to work all the time. But this is not a poor reflection of Redfin at all, just a facet of the fast-moving real estate market and how folks want answers right away in this Internet age.

    No work life balance

    Oct 14, 2019 - Senior Agent

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The people are great. It's nice being on a collaborative team. The benefits are excellent.

    Cons

Absolutely no work life balance when you're an agent. Redfin offers generous time off but it's impossible to take time off without drastically reducing your pay. Go on vacation and lose your pipeline and any existing client who may be writing offers. The guaranteed salary is laughable - it won't even pay basic rent. Pay is determined by client rankings but agents aren't allowed to let clients know that anything under a 9/10 effects agent pay and promotion abilities. All clients get surveyed - even the ones that are unrealistic - making it nearly impossible to be firm with a difficult client for fear of survey retribution. It creates lots of unnecessary work. For years Redfin has acknowledged there's a work life balance issue but instead of working on the root of the issue - low base pay and survey stress - they keep throwing money at top producers, especially in the form of stock which needs to vest. This is essentially just a carrot being dangled in front of high performing agents to get them to stay somewhere with deep set issues.

Zero work life balance and low pay.. lowered every year

Apr 14, 2021 - Realtor in Chicago, IL
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Some benefits are good but there is no 401K matching

    Cons

You are expected to work all the time and therefore there is ZERO work life balance. The pay is cut lower and lower every year (sneaky ways). It’s impossible to take real time off because you are servicing 50+ clients and always busy. Some clients are very demanding and needy. Support staff needs more training to actually help you !!

    Real estate, done right

Jun 12, 2013 - Anonymous Employee in Washington, DC

    Pros

The benefits and start up culture are great. The ability to work with clients and be honest is so nice since you're still receiving a salary. Mileage paid and vacations are also a plus.

    Cons

Work life balance can be an issue but really becomes a problem when you want to become a top producer. The summers are crazy but winters allow for some down time.

Great Firm to be in the Top 10% of brokers

Jan 22, 2023 - Lead Agent in Everett, WA

    Pros

Always kept me learning more about the industry to better client experience and my knowledge base. Management treated me fairly and listened to concerns. Work life balance was okay and advancement potential was great. I went through three advancements while I was working at Redfin.

    Cons

None really, except you need to be comfortable with the sliding commission based on your clients' reviews of you and their Redfin experience. If you don't like receiving constructive criticism from clients at all times, maybe not the role for you.

    Great Company Great Leadership

Jul 31, 2021 - Manager in San Francisco, CA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

CEO is very driven and focuses on the human side of the business as much as the financial side. Company is very transparent about it's wins and challenges and encourages employee feedback. Work life balance can be a challenge but leadership is always trying new ways to make it better.

    Cons

Company has a lot of change to continually try to improve. While it keeps the company ahead of the game it can be hard to keep up with the pace of change. Workloads are very high and if you don't manage your time well it can lead to burnout.
