I worked at Reed Technology & Information Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly environment, great pay, and easy to get along with coworkers. Constant flow of work, never boring.

    Cons

Not many, only con would be to be less strict on new employees with their metrics.

    Advice to Management

None. Management handled almost everything very well.

I have been working at Reed Technology & Information Services part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, equipment provided by management

    Cons

Limited growth opportunities, unstable pay, poor transparency and communication

    Advice to Management

Prioritize homeworkers as you prioritize in-house workers.

I have been working at Reed Technology & Information Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great Benefits, Most of the supervisors are easy to talk to and they listen, the managers are approachable and care about their employees, lenient rules and dress code, great pay, great benefits

    Cons

Some politics, people play favorites, can be gossip, some supervisors take advantage of their power

    Advice to Management

Make sure supervisors aren't taking advantage of their positions

I worked at Reed Technology & Information Services full-time

    Pros

Steady work, many opportunities to grow and move upwards, decent benefits, plenty of overtime

    Cons

Very inflexible work schedule, hard to get any time off, constant stress to hit production numbers and accuracy

    Advice to Management

My biggest issue with Reed is the total inflexibility to get pto. Only allowing 2 people a day in a team of 30 to take off only creates internal drama and infighting.

I worked at Reed Technology & Information Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    • Tons of effort put into company culture
    • Your opinion is often valued
    • You're kept in the loop with business direction
    • Promotes from within
    • Makes a considerable effort to address complaints company wide

    Cons

    • Wage can be a little light, bumps in pay as well.
    • The help you need isn't in balance with the help you receive.
    • Vacation time is a little light to start.
    • Styles of managing not only hinge upon your direct supervisor and manager but which floor you end up on. If you're placed on the 'wrong' floor, micro-managing will be an issue. Experiments with managing philosophy lead to some short changing.
    • Despite casual dress attire, you may not wear shorts. This becomes a problem in the summer when the AC doesn't work properly.
    • You get the sense that you're more or less seen as a child. At the time I worked there, use of cell phone was a huge issue. I hear presently that it is not so any longer. Talking at your desk was a punishable offense if your supervisor didn't favor you.
    • Favoritism

    Advice to Management

Looking back at my experience at Reed Technology, I really enjoyed quite a few aspects working within production.

Come to a unified managing philosophy. Fix the AC or allow for reasonably comfortable clothing in the summer. Treat your production workers as you would normally treat adults in a professional work environment, unless they abuse their privileges. The many shouldn't suffer for the mistakes of the few.
(These complaints may have been addressed since the time I left).

    "New unqualified technical management"

I worked at Reed Technology & Information Services full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Stability and security, better defined requirements, mostly skilled developers, good pension plans.

    Cons

New unqualified technical management without understanding of production processes and needs. Luck of knowledge of existing architecture, software and effort for development and maintenance. Lots of new people hired without qualifications doing little or none of the current work. Investments into always failed initiatives beside the main contract/ business. Lots of ever-growing pressure to do more of the successful but unappreciated segment of the main business.

    Advice to Management

Stop focusing on only new initiatives, learn the main business, hire qualified technical personnel

  8. "Good people, principled leadership, decent pay"

I worked at Reed Technology & Information Services full-time

    Pros

Majority of staff are good, friendly people. Nice family atmosphere. Benefits are competitive though they recently abandoned pension plans and focused on 401k plans. Hardworking, focused staff and management willing to work with you to improve skill set and willing to listen to creative solutions. Very knowledgeable in their specialties with deep and wide domain expertise. Strong corporate ownership.

    Cons

Pay could be better but they work at it. Percentage of "professionals" at mid- to upper-levels is a bit low but that appears to be changing. Sometimes slow to innovate and adopt new technologies and approaches.

    Advice to Management

Changing organizational structures and business opportunities should be readily communicated to all staff more regularly rather than hide what may appear need to know. Adopt more pilot programs in order to determine value of new methodologies with little risk to existing business.

I have been working at Reed Technology & Information Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay (with overtime), 401k, IRA, Employee stock purchase.

    Cons

Management has gotten really bad over the past couple of years, anybody can become a department manager anymore even with zero experience of knowledge.

    Advice to Management

Hire knowledgeable people from the production floors and promote them instead of always pushing them down, no room for advancement makes people want to leave.
