I worked at Reed's (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The products are almost uniquely high in quality, especially for a company that is this high in sales. In fact, the quality has actually improved over time. The quality and the great love consumers have for the products makes a positive difference to employees. The CEO is innovative, knowledgeable, and passionate, and the company's current board has an impressive depth of knowledge and experience, as do some of his management team.

    Cons

Employees don't always seem valued by top management, which can put a cap on the enthusiasm at times (though a good idea can get through).

    Advice to Management

Employees could be respected and valued more and given more positive feedback. At the same time, while the CEO, as founder, he has some personal quirks and limitations, his tremendous insights, vision, instincts, and personal connection to the product can't be overvalued. The company would do well to help employees appreciate that vision and to increase employee development opportunities and education.

  2. "MASSIVE Ego =owner, HUGE Bully strategy =VP of Sales, EVIL Intimidator=HR. Insanely "run" company."

    Pros

Upper management has no clue what the players do (no team, no communication) so in that regard you do what you want. And they do what they want, which is usually fire people as a way to show momentum and action? Strangest working environment.

    Cons

Cancer, this company is a cancer. Mutated, warped, unhealthy in every way.

    Advice to Management

No advice simply because they are too egotistically and evil to care about feedback for improvement.

    I worked at Reed's full-time

    Pros

The products are really good and the company is growing every year.

    Cons

Management is poor, unprofessional and disorganized. Every man for himself mentality and a lot of blaming and backstabbing goes on in every day operations. Overall the company lacks integrity. Unrealistic expectations and non acheivable goals are presented to employees and no support whatsoever is given to help achieve them. I am a highly positive person but found myself feeling defeated and poisioned by the work envioronment.

    Advice to Management

Chris Reed should be more aware of how his management treats employees. One manager in particular is very difficult to work for. Employees are frequently told they are disposable - which is true given the high rate of firings by this manager. My advice to Chris Reed would be to reach out to your employees in a private, confidential way and try to learn more about what is going on behind your back. You are very vulnerable to employee lawsuits right now.

    Pros

this is a high growth consumer products company with strong market potential. reed's seems to be making the transition from natural foods to mainstream grocery chains. this is essential to future growth

    Cons

the company is underfunded. it needs to become profitable for long term viability. the company needs to spend marketing resources in order to get the word out and to enhance the brand.

    Advice to Management

management needs to learn to delegate. they are not very trusting of the employees. employees need to be encouraged to take risks and not be afraid to make mistakes.
