"Former Customer Service Review - All-Star Team, Annoying Leadership"

Pros
-Completely remote and flexible work schedule. -The lead designer Matt Cobb is one of the greatest front-end pros that I've ever seen. The marketing, engineering, and customer service teams seem to be crack teams too across the board. -The founders lucked out with general early talent. There's so much momentum it would be very hard to mess this up. The company's future prospects are bright if they can retain... talent.
Show MoreCons
-The CEO tends to attack people with obtuse instructions and OCD excessive micromanagement. Sometimes this is done in shared team channels instead of 1 on 1. -Management does not make an effort to make team members feel they matter and are taken care of, apart from an annual ski trip. -Management always seem to think they know best instead of leaving things to domain experts. -Pay is definitely below... average start-up pay, although I think it should rise with revenue. -A ton of people get pulled in to apply with the amazing art, brand messaging, and content, but 3 months in everyone's miserable and henpecked by the CEO. -As a completely remote team, a lot of the rot hides underneath until a bunch of team members get together and have a beer or two. Teammates do not feel safe voicing their discontent in standups and in Slack because of how management acts. -Burnout is becoming universal across the team, and I have heard 2019 retention rate has been awful. This retention issue may become a big problem in the short future.

Focus more on personal development and gratitude. Being harsh and cracking the whip as a leader gets short term results but kills team-wide morale. Team members are starting to talk about it more, and it seems to be a company-wide issue. People who have stuck by the company want to be rewarded and not attacked and driven like slaves. Reedsy is in a good spot, but if you continue your trend this year of losing... your rock stars you're screwed. Talent is the hardest resource to obtain and there is/was a ton of talent.

"Hostile work environment"
StarStarStarStarStar- Senior Management
Doesn't RecommendI worked at Reedsy full-time for less than a year
Pros
- Remote working - Pretty much everyone except the CEOs are really nice, which is a massive shame because:
Cons
If you think you're going to enjoy working for a website relating to self book publishing think again: - Hostile management (CEOs) / who incorporate a 'do as I say and don't argue' - Terrible communication of expected results (and then anger from management when results aren't what they thought of in their head - which they didn't communicate - Reports of even worst treatment to other staff members... (leading to a very high rate of people leaving) - 0 respect for employees - All of which leads to a very hostile environment which is shared amongst the views of employees - They list open job roles on job sites that aren't actually available purely to get insights from people applying - as in they'll ask applicants questions and use that insight to make improvements without ever intending to hire that applicant (I have proof saved of this).

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookI worked at Reedsy
Pros
Interesting product and work colleagues
Cons
Very inexperienced management team with little to no experience in managing professionals. They lead with an old school approach of " just do it and don't ask too many questions "
Advice to Management
Take some management classes and learn how to motivate teams and capture talent.
