I have been working at Regions Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are nice and caring about the patients they serve.

    Cons

Poor pay, vacation time off maxes at 5 yrs, no incentives for long tenured employees, heavy workload, 33% employee turn over in last 12 months.

    Advice to Management

Better pay and benefits, lighten the workload so employees don't get so stressed and frustrated, get management in place that truly care for employees and not the bottom line.

I worked at Regions Hospital (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I loved my time at Regions. I had a lot of autonomy in my position. It was a unique and interesting position.

    Cons

My position was eliminated due to budget cuts. It would have been nice to have some idea that this was a possibility.

I have been working at Regions Hospital part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great team environment; Professional staff; Excellent Managers on the Mental Health Units; Excellent Charge RN's (all shifts); New and clean work environment (Mental Health Department)

    Cons

Part-Time work can make it hard to support a family of five, when there are slow times and/or lower patient populations; Need for a secondary job to stay on time or get ahead on household bills; Higher rates of health insurance (in 2017) due to an increase co-pays, lower HRA insurance payment totals, and increased out-of-pocket expenses related to 'The Affordable Healthcare Act.'

    Advice to Management

Hire more people to full time in the Mental Health Associate role. Let them branch out (more) into medical and clinical teaching roles. They have 4-year Bachelors degrees!

I worked at Regions Hospital full-time

    Pros

Some decent nurses who generally cared about their work

    Cons

Workplace bullies (think of the Mean Girls movie)
    Toxic work environment
PCA's don't receive the respect they deserve
    Just plain unpleasant

    Advice to Management

Treat your PCA's with respect. Without them Nurses would have to do the work
Address your toxic work environments and bullies accordingly

I have been working at Regions Hospital part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Organized, well run company. Continually strives to improve care. Good pay. Proactive and upbeat.

    Cons

Pressure to do more with less bedside staff. Lack of real understanding of struggles of bedside staff. Nursing and MD leadership could work together better, be more cooperative and integrated.

    Advice to Management

Shadow caregivers on the floors more often to truly understand challenges. More support to bedside caregivers.

    So much to learn!
    So many opportunities!
    Very inclusive environment-we embrace diversity.
We provide care to EVERYONE-regardless of ability to pay
I love the people I work with.

    Cons

    working night shifts/weekends/holidays
budget challenges with changes in health care reimbursement

    Advice to Management

Continue asking front line to be involved in decisions. Thank you for 'rounding' and try to do it more. Maybe shadow a nurse for a few hours......'walk in our shoes.'
