I have been working at RehabCare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are terrific. My PD is great as well. I feel appreciated in the building I work in. I really enjoy working with my patients.

    Cons

Minimal pay increase in 5 years. Too much emphasis on productivity, occasional hugging the RUG. No 401k match. The company buys too many other companies instead of investing in current employees. Recently paid 125 million in fines but still a lot of pressure from upper management to always be billing patients. 90+% PCR is too high.

    Advice to Management

Give raises. Match 401k. 80% PCR is more appropriate. Trust the judgement of your evaluators and assistants with regard to appropriate patient treatment.

    Pros

In a hospital setting, no rediculous rugs minutes to capture. Management is not going to squeeze whatever they can to get minutes and revenue from their patients and the therapists. Nice staff and co workers. Flexible schedule with leaving for appointments during the day. It's a trade off for a less stressful environment from a higher paid high stress position

    Cons

Pay is lower in hospital settings than nursing homes and snfs. Not sure of how hospitals rank against home health or schools. Caseload runs high as a rule, with lack of consistent prn staff.

    Advice to Management

Maintain a decent prn staff to help with days that are unusually busy.

I worked at RehabCare part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The benefits weren't bad through the company, amazing therapists to work with!

    Cons

The facility itself (Lincoln Village) was awful. The CNA's texted on their phones rather than going to patient rooms to do their job. My manager was especially awful. Everyone was afraid of her and she seemed to be untouchable. She cornered me in a medical room and got extremely confrontational. I went straight to HR, which my manager only received a slap on the wrist. The other therapists told me other people in my position as well as therapists had tried turning her in for the horrible things she would do and say.
Once I put in my two week notice, she had made a racist comment about a young woman interviewing for my position. Which then I called RehabCare's compliance hotline. All they did was look into it, there was no resolution. I could write a book on this horrible woman.

    Advice to Management

Leave your position, and seek professional help.

I have been working at RehabCare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company has taken a strong focus on improving outcomes and quality of care, including basing bonuses on recognition for care provided to patients. We also get regular updates on how to improve documentation and clinical skills to better our patient's. I feel like RehabCare is pushing for quality outcomes as the profession beings a change from fee-for-services to a model paying for outcomes.

    Cons

The only negative I have of the company is that they do not always recognize the talent they have in their system. They do hire within first for any positions, and you can transfer easily within their large network of facilities, but if you were to stay at one facility, it is almost impossible to be recognized and receive a raise - you basically have to change facilities (or companies) to receive a raise. This is something I hope they recognize in the near future and fix.

    Advice to Management

Incorporate with your Recognize Core program a system to give raises to those clinicians who provide quality care to retain them in your facilities.

I worked at RehabCare (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great Team of therapists who treated me and each other with respect.

    Cons

As a rehab technician, I enjoyed my duties. Therapists seemed overworked.

    Advice to Management

Limit the quota times to have therapists see their patients so they actually have enough time to do the patient activities and have to worry less about writing and recording.
